The only thing that would make it worse would be if the little one was a navy ship and the Officer of the Deck was summoned forth by a demon at his Court Martial and asked why he hadn't taken prudent prior measures to avoid or mitigate this mishap.

DAMN. One wonders exactly how the hell sumthin' like that actually happens.

In re: court-martial. I've had to explain to the Powers That Be why it was one of my troops got a DWI while I was in my own bed, sound asleep at 0230 hrs. But at least I wasn't court-martialed for it.

While I have a rich and storied history of being written up by seniors and have served as the command legal officer, I have never been asked to partake of a Court Martial. I feel that there is justice in the world after all. There were two trials that could have seen me called as a witness of some kind but neither party felt worthy of the honor.
