I heard this song on my way to drop off my car at the garage this morning. It takes active listening.

I returned this afternoon to pick up my car and the owner was standing there, handed me my keys and I drove off. Like a boss. I used to hate that expression but now I know. There was no paperwork, no charge, no explanations other than, "all fixed."

We don't garden anymore
It's like a modern anthem
We have better things to do
Than herd plants around the yard.

There's chairs aplenty
More upon the wall
and when they're used
More can be found in the garage.

A Leaf, a bough and thou

For the Fallen

Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943), published in The Times newspaper on 21st September 1914.

For I like the words of the first 3 stanzas not......
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Almost 3 years ago, Pew Research put together an interesting little graphic that purports to show the increasing radicalism of Congress and dearth of centrists/moderates. If you look at the short article and even the comments to it, there are some interesting insights into the nature of the country's wars over the last 50 years.

Under Nixon, it was readily apparent to all Americans that the United States was at war and a very brutal war in a meaningless place for insufficient reasons to justify the lives and well-being of the men we drafted and sent off to fight that war. Congress consisted in large part of members of the Greatest Generation and they still tended to act like a representative democracy which sought to make reasoned arguments for and against policy, law, and war.

Under Reagan/Bush, the country was once again manifestly locked in a war. It was the endgame of the Reagan determined end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the USSR on terms all parties could find bearable. There was less agreement on policy and law but the mindset on nationalism was basically unchanged since Nixon's time. The Cold War, the missile gap, the ABM and IRBM Treaties and SALT issue weighed heavily on the minds of the legislators. They were people like Sam Nunn.

Under Obama the country was obviously not at war and had no intention of being at war and 100% of the majority party was opposed to the war. We all basically opposed the war as it finally had sunk in that we were pouring American lives and treasure into a sewer from which nothing good could be saved and an area and country which will never recover until the 'strongmen' take power again after more blood has been spilled than anybody can imagine.

We also aren't at war with islam or terrorists and even that war on drugs tapered off as everybody started to look at how stupid that rigged game was playing out. In the end, the only war both parties admitted to was the war on poverty. The voting record shows it. Both parties have radically different notions of how to fight that war.

One of the things I make out of that graph is that the flight of reasonableness began when Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi slammed the door on any legislation that was not purely politically driven to enhance only democrats. In short, there was absolutely no 'upside' for any republican to vote with the majority on increasingly radical and insane notions put to vote by the leaders of the House and Senate and the republicans in the House all knew it. It was the 'elected representatives of the people in the Senate' that figured they could still compromise and get away with some comprise because they don't get reelected every 2 years and their political philosophy has always been, devil take the hindmost. Almost all of the legislation enacted under Obama is destructive to the United States and the record shows it.

I am wracking my brain trying to think what issue, presented to me by Pelosi or Reid, that there possibly could be, which I would vote for. I'm not having much luck finding a single one. Those two and Obama, did to politics in this country, what the Gracchi did to Rome and what Cato did to Carthage.

Collapse of Empire - Thomas Cole

I hope it holds true because the only group we despise more than politicians, is journalists.

15 minutes after the image above here are the updated results. Pity the fascists of America who have no 'late reporting' precincts like Philadelphia, Chicago or Detroit.

Do you think other real republican candidates will decide that the surest route to victory is to find one of the endless progressive journolist idiots and body-slam him on camera?

It looks like some of us elected a man to send to Washington to drain the swamp and he is under prepared. Not his fault. We both thought he was dealing with a swamp until he got there and found out it's as deep as an ocean and quite a bit wider.

The information put out on Jerry Pournelle's site in an interesting case in point. It appears that Comey is no different from other democrat apparatchiks and probably even worse than Jamie Gorelick who gives every appearance of being one of the most vile people in our history.

What is it with the swamp denizens in DC that they turn the likes of recently fired DNC Chairwoman Wasserman Schultz into their flag bearers and champions even if they know they are liars and charlatans? And now you don't hear about the lawyers for the DNC case down in Florida telling the court that the DNC is in no way bound by the will of the electorate and the DNC crew of evil men and women can simply 'appoint' their candidate and that's that.

I believe that if I poked around into the backgrounds of every single one of the various appointees in DC, more than 90% of them would prove to be human scum that only float on the swamp known as DC and Wall Street. What can you say about a group that collectively and individually have never been blamed for a single disaster they created whether it be the banking collapse, the housing collapse, the EPA mine disaster? You name the disaster and not ONE SINGLE SCUMBAG in DC was punished or even investigated for wrongdoing. Look at that worthless 'investigation' into Clinton's email thievery and knowingly disclosing classified information on her private server to enemies of the United States. It now appears, finally, that acting on some of that Clinton information, China rounded up all the agents there working for the CIA (US) executed them. How's that for 'no consequences' and 'what does it matter anymore?'

So Trump is no longer laboring under any illusions/delusion about what he's working with. On the gripping hand, they are beginning to get some idea of who they are dealing with and it's looking more like a fair fight, hopefully to the death. One side telling of that is the news filtering out that after thousands of high level leaks from the so-called "intel" community, there has not been one actionable peep out of any of those SCUMBAGS that points to any collusion between Trump's entire campaign staff or him personally conspiring with Russia to interfere in our elections.

Where are all those democrats in congress howling about the interference of the DNC handpicked staff and delegates interfering in the free exercise of democracy by all those chumps that voted for Bernie? The DNC sure as hell conspired against them. Their own hacked records prove it.

And the second thing for Trump; he visited the King of Saudi Arabia and did very well. He visited Jerusalem and did very well. He visited the pope in the Vatican and on this holy ground handed him a first edition copy of the works of some guy named Martin Luther blah blah. How's that for a poke in the eye? Subtle enough that even the clowns on NPR never mentioned it today. That was the bright shining moment of the political day today and they never even noticed.

I am very nearly at the point of nailing political statements to my neighborhood.

They deserve it. They're a bunch of leftist leaning trees if I ever saw one.

Stupid commy trees.

Roger Ailes house.

I remember a few houses like this in Solana Beach where, for some reason, the elite needed to be seen in all their whatever. Me? I shed my clothes where none could see me at the foot of the cliffs on the beach, after dark. Srsly, who lives in a goldfish bowl?

Not to speak well of kings, but I found this story intriguing. How many people are flown by the King? As I recall, both Presidents Bush were pilots. It's not a  rare skill but few people have ever learned to fly.

He sent me this picture of a time that doesn't feel that long ago and yet, was taken almost 9 years ago on a summer day in Old Town three months after I retired from active duty. You can tell from the long hair. I kind of miss the sun swept patios of San Diego and Encinitas where one could sit and watch the people glide by on their way somewhere. We don't really have them here in Metropark Centralis.

Henry Wallace was FDR's vice president for four years. He was a hardline communist and FDR wisely decided to ditch the man and his followers when he ran for his fourth term. This is how Wallace describes a fascist.
A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward those of other races, parties, classes, religions, cultures, regions or nations as to make him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends. The supreme god of a fascist, to which his ends are directed, may be money or power; may be a race or a class; may be a military, clique or an economic group; or may be a culture, religion, or a political party.
In my lifetime the fascists took to the streets in giant screaming mobs filled with hatred for ordinary patriotic Americans. They pretty much looked like the people calling themselves Black Lives Matter or Antifa today. They are indescribably intolerant of dissenters who don't agree 100% with their demands and they are ruthless and vicious as only mobs can be.

It's funny to me how they keep trying to raise up various 'fascist straw men' and demand that we understand that they are only rioting, looting, burning cars and businesses because they oppose the evil bastard that is in the White House. Funny how they completely fail to see themselves as the actual enemy of democracy and the American Way even as they rant and rave and attack innocent people they find on the street.

Wallace wanted us to know what fascists looked like if we found one on the loose. Here's his description from 1944:
The perfect type of fascist throughout recent centuries.... (is) willing at all times to engage in any degree of deceit and violence necessary to place his culture and race astride the world..... The hoodlums who have been desecrating churches, cathedrals and synagogues in some of our larger cities are ripe material for fascist leadership.
It's interesting to me that lies and deceit really only come from the political class and almost entirely from the left.  There's a reason for that. When a political class liar from the right is caught in a lie, and they always are, the jackals in the media hound him or her right out of office and political life.
The dangerous American fascist is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany....The American fascist.......method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power.
The media is the current perch for the arch-fascists in America. They have married into the political and ruling class of the left and they preach the gospel according to the most bigoted, close-minded and illiberal people of the 20th century. You simply have to watch the paroxysm of rage shared by the media and liberal elite every minute of the day on television, cable, internet, New York Times, Washington Post and all the other liberal bastions to see how they are playing by the rules Wallace laid out for them over 70 years ago.
American fascism will not be really dangerous until there is a purposeful coalition among the cartelists, the deliberate poisoners of public information, and those who stand for the K.K.K.  (explicit racist) type of demagoguery.
Well we've got that in spades now, don't we.
Still another danger is represented by those who, paying lip service to democracy and the common welfare, in their insatiable greed for money and the power which money gives, do not hesitate surreptitiously to evade the laws designed to safeguard the public from monopolistic extortion.
Isn't that just precisely what we have now? The fascists are Congress and the entire political class? Ever wonder why all those bankers didn't go to jail for life after the housing bubble collapsed?
The symptoms of fascist thinking are colored by environment and adapted to immediate circumstances. But always and everywhere they can be identified by their appeal to prejudice and by the desire to play upon the fears and vanities of different groups in order to gain power.
Just which group out there is now exploiting race and appealing to prejudice on a daily basis?
The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity, every crack in the common front against fascism. They use every opportunity to impugn democracy.....
....They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.
In large part they are doing this very well at one level and roiling the base of all sides at the other level. They bring home every day the adage that you can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time.

I would like to see more men and women of good will run for office but the media and the various sharpshooters in both parties make a point of picking them off early as too callow, too dimwitted, too trusting, too ignorant, etc. Look how they portrayed a neurosurgeon who ran for president. Look at how they disparage Rand Paul who is, in real life, an eye surgeon.

It would be nice if the people currently agitating for removal of a duly elected president turned their attention to the way their sort of stupidity plays out when the ones who preach tyranny and wage war against civil society win the contest. They don't have to look any further than Detroit, Puerto Rico, Cuba or Venezuela to see what happens to any society when the real fascists win power.

From our good friends at the Wall Street Journal.
The Justice Department moved to find a temporary successor for fired FBI Director James Comey, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his top deputy on Wednesday interviewed five candidates amid continuing fallout over the controversial dismissal.
Some agents at the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in interviews that they were shocked and demoralized, with several saying that while they didn’t agree with all of Mr. Comey’s actions, they respected him and were startled by his firing on Tuesday.
You have to wonder what kind of stupid FBI "investigator" could be shocked, demoralized and startled by Comey finally getting fired. Millions of people have been demanding his head since July of last year. I wonder if these idiots are the ones currently investigating Snowden or just the morons investigating Flynn.

I mean, if this was about me and I worked for the FBI, I'd be truly embarrassed to be so portrayed.

Could the FBI reopen the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server and account to get around goverment regulations. Yes. It won't help it though that Comey gave all of the people involved immunity and conspired with all of them to destroy all the evidence as part of HIS investigation.

Way to go Comey!

In a move few condemned, some of the last monuments raised to the memory of slaveholders have been removed and efforts are underway to destroy the handful that still remain. Wreckers arrive tomorrow to demolish that monument raised to slaveholder George Washington and his house is scheduled for a visit next week from the neighborhood 'firemen'. It is expected that their flamethrowers will make short work of that bastion of slavery still poised atop a bank on a bend of the Potomac River.

The Jefferson Memorial is being painted black, all icons and phrases of the hated slave owner Thomas Jefferson will be removed or sand-blasted and another bust of Martin Luther King will be installed in a gesture that will finally bury the hatchett of race hatred in Amerika! Slaveowner Jefferson's house at Monticello is also scheduled for a visit by the local 'firemen' and they anticipate the usual complete and total destruction of the house and all of its contents.

Local Fireman, "Chip" DeHay said, "It won't be no different than what we did to Mrs. Washington's granddaughter, Mary Anna Custis Lee's house up at Arlington yesterday and we expect the fires will probably burn themselves out in a day or two."

Readers will recall the quick work of the Alexandria Fire Men who successfully torched the hated monument to slavery that was Arlington House, former home of slave owner Robert E. Lee.

Like minded citizens were keen to point out that Washington DC was itself a monument named after the long dead slave owner, George Washington, and rushed to implement the complete fiery destruction of the city and everything within that city's limits. Radicals wearing native american costumes were observed on the mob's fringe, passing explosives and maps of various white looking buildings with domed roofs to the more active and fiery members of the mob.

Noted Amerikkan speechifyer Rodney King, was quoted saying, "And uh, I mean please, we can, we can get along here. We all can get along - we just gotta, we gotta. I mean, we're all stuck here for a while, let's, you know let's try to work it out, let's try to beat it, you know, let's try to work it out."

Supporters ignored his pleas and rushed to find more gasoline and additional empty bottles and rags.

Ripped off from Rodger The Real King of France

Every few months I click on a link to a place I want more information from and it directs me to facebook. I have an account there but I almost never go there. It was opened as a window to a world I was otherwise uninterested in and too busy to bother with and, as I said, I hardly ever go there.

I went there tonight and found that in my absence some 'friend' had taken over whatever that page is that records all the thoughts of your hundreds of friends and lays them out in chronological order for your perusal. What I had before my eyes was a solid stream, screen after screeen after screen of screeds of hate for anybody to the right of Jimmy Carter. This 'friend' went on and on and on and every fleck of spittle was visible in her disdain and hatred for the stupid dolts and morons that make up the sizeable minority of the US population that voted for Trump.

I already have one fb friend who has the same inclination to share the passionate beliefs of people who dress in black, riot, attempt to kill free speech and think inflicting bodily harm is fair provided it is only inflicted on wrong-thinking, red-necked sorts. He has a Ph.D in Ocean Engineering and a distinguished career with patents to his name and he was at Pearl Harbor the day the Imperial Japanese Navy showed up to express their interest in fighting the United States. He may be a bit more gaga then I remember him from the last time we met in a pub several years ago. At any rate, one loon is enough.

I went to the handy link that lets one unfollow the feed from someone tagged as a friend and pulled the trigger. As I did so, I thought about this place and wondered if it too was beginning to bear some of the hallmarks of someone who is a crazy mad frothing-at-the-mouth lunatic and I decided, not yet. I still prefer to find the humor in just about any situation. It's usually there, somewhere.

Good riddance to the most pathetic and venal man to ever hold the office of Director of FBI. He will not be missed for he did literally nothing about the crimes and misdemeanors that spewed out of the Obama administration for more than 8 years. I can't believe it took Trump this long to fire the guy for being worthless, ineffective and useless.

He became a tool of the democrats and was launched on one stupid witch hunt after another by them into putative links to Russia and Trump and witchcraft, and racism and bullying and meanness and other stupid stuff that kept the FBI from playing any meaningful role in the war on terror.

Mr. Trump insisted he’s not part of the probe, but said he felt compelled to fire the director anyway.
“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau,” Mr. Trump said in a letter to Mr. Comey, posted on media websites.
The president said a new director is needed who “restores public trust and confidence” in the agency.
Comey damaged FBI credibility much the way Holder and Lynch destroyed the reputation of the Department of Justice. What an enviable track record for Obama's choices to lead the Bureau and DOJ.

The Washington Post is notorious for its objective journalism. It was quite a pleasure to read their own words as they describe government as practiced by their very best friends and neighbors.

It's funny how they never try to use this particular lens to investigate the governments of places like Puerto Rico, Chicago, San Diego, Washington DC,  Venezuela, or other places that are infamous for applying punishments and extortion to tax their subjects.

Some people appear larger-than-life in hindsight. I can't help but believe that these men were found larger-than-life while still alive and they certainly remain larger than life today.

Faces at Mount Rushmore
Contrast them and the rather pathetic lineup we have 'enjoyed' lately in the race to lead our country. Where the men above appeared to strive to lead us to the top, the latest political dross all seemed determined to lead us in a race to the bottom. Can you imagine people voting for a communist for President of the United States? What does that say about the state of education in America? How stupid does one have to be to prefer tyranny to a constitutional republic?

While I was out the other day I heard some words on the radio over the roar of my 6 cylinder engine sans muffler. They went something like this:
You know what the trinity of Canada is? I’ll tell it to you in the way I learned it. I had Charles Krauthammer on the show one day.  And I don’t ask him him political questions when he is on. Because everyone knows him from Fox and from his column, how he thinks. So, I like to ask philosophical questions.  He’s a thoughtful man.
So I said, “Charles, you grew up in Canada. What’s the biggest difference between Canada and the United States?” And to his great credit he had an immediate and terrific answer.  He said, “Well the American Declaration of Independence enshrines life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The motto of Canada is peace, order, and good government.”
The big difference.  That’s why you go to Canada. That’s what you feel. Peace, order, good government, and nothing is happening. It’s not an exciting place like America’s an exciting place. By the way, it may be great and better to live in an unexciting place. It’s a curse to live in interesting times. It may not be a blessing but it is different.
No one had our American Trinity. And they are all necessary. The Left has successfully labeled those of us who believe in the “In God We Trust” part as fanatics, as outside of mainstream American history.
It was an interesting tidbit for a Monday drive and then the light turned green and the radio was once again drowned out by the mighty roar as I opened the throttle and roared down the streets of Metroparkcentralis.

To be honest, in Ohio they refer to the people that register cars and license drivers as a bureau, so strictly speaking, it is not a visit to the DMV. That said, the fine folks at my local branch of the DMV had themselves an illuminated sign in their place of business that every person standing in line had the opportunity to read several dozen times while waiting for a turn to talk with a real person of the DMV.

I was there for a simple $7.00 transaction that I had deliberately engineered and was happy to spend 3 whole minutes waiting in line for my turn. It came soon enough and the place was nothing like the disaster scene that was my last visit to the DMV in Hillcrest, San Diego, CA 6 years ago when there were 300 people waiting inside and another 800 waiting in the parking lot outside for their turn at being 'atttended to' by employees of the DMV. This was way better.

As to the sign I read there today, this is what it said: In Ohio,

It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday

I don't know if this is so but it is repeated at this site. There are some other strange Ohio laws it seems.

It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house.

Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public.

Participating or conducting a duel is prohibited.

I walked out of the DMV today, five minutes after I entered, a happy man. How often does that happen?

It doesn't seem much like a victory these days as Europe is slowly being overwhelmed by a tide of non-Europeans intent on living as their ancestors have lived and bringing with them all the problems that destroyed the lands they came from. I'm going to miss it when it's gone.

Today the people in France and it's citizens abroad vote for a new president. They seem to have a choice between a rabid socialist who hates immigrants and a rabid socialist drone who thinks Stalin didn't go far enough with his 'command economy' and five year plans. And here I thought we had a difficult choice for president. Still, this last vote was somewhat easier than the previous two. I couldn't detect a particle of difference between Romney and Schumer and McCain is simply a power addicted zombie from Hell with control issues and poor impulse control and, not to mention, he's as crazy socialist as Schumer and Pelosi combined.

I still don't understand why, with the whole world flooded with guns, terrorists, crazy murdering arabs and vicious social justice warriors, so few politicians have been assassinated. I'm also surprised they haven't taken out the judges they find objectionable. OTOH, I think it's just a matter of time since the opportunity is ever present and remote control armed drones are now in play all over the world.

If pathetic crazies like these losers can get within spitting distance of a president, it's hard to believe that the really hardcore fanatics will fail. Still, I'm going to remain optimistic.
