Whafo you be pickin' on the Americal Div., Curtis? I spent a lot of time with those guys in my second life in RVN as an I-Corp FAC (MACV, Not USARV, call-sign "Jake") stationed down in Quang Ngai City...still have an old zippo lighter with their enamel Div patch on it (although I don't smoke) The outfit was pretty good when I was there, which was pre-Calley. But of course they always were the red-headed bastard step-child in I-Corps with a Maine 3-star in charge. Truth to tell, tho, they were pretty much left to themselves in Quang Ngai and Quang Tin provinces when I was there..
So not. It was a long slog in the other world. All of my Divisions formed overseas. They were all the best.
The 'common core' is not so common. Other things aren't all that common either. I searched for a most uncommon Division. As the only Division we ever formed overseas, the Americal was uniquely uncommon.
