MARKET STREET BEFORE THE 1906 QUAKE AND FIRE

Seen originally at American Digest.
It looks like the law of gross tonnage is the only law. No stop signs, yield signs or street lights and every man for himself.

Unlike the Obama Admin, the 06 Quake was a shining example of Congressional leadership in the days before the President was regarded as El Cid. Upon the news reaching Washington Congress met in emergency session at 0400am and authorized the use of the Army to inclu both the number and make-up of the relief force and their detailed instructions as to scope of authority and action--as well as arranging for funding of both short-term and long-term financial relief--all within five hours of debate.

You know they're around somewhere and the turntable is still the same one probably.

Yep, Teddy would be hurt to be compared to El Cid. The Presidio was right there and as I recall it was almost untouched by the quake. I could be completely wrong. :)
