STAND AND DELIVER

I've never really understood why this works.  I'm a little embarrassed that it does in the home of the brave and the land of the free. There would be an extraordinary series of unfortunate accidents if this sort of thing was done to the wrong element in society. Fires, explosions, shootings... When you think about it, nobody guards the homes of district attorneys, police or judges.

I don't think a passive society was what they had in mind when the founders launched the Revolution. What total morons decided that incentivising the police and all other law enforcement agents to stop and steal was the best route to a just and civil society wherein all people had respect for the law? This is no different than a highwayman standing in the road and shouting, "Your money or your life!"

Appalling. Just what I need to read before I head out on the road next week.

Had a long conversation with an avowed rabid socialist this morning as she drove me to the airport and she agrees that this sort of thing must not be permitted even in her socialist utopia.

The !-10 corridor is notorious for drug smuggling in certain sections. Both the State and the locals are especially out in force on the stretch where I-10 comes off the Lafayette, La. elevated over the Atchafalaya Swamp into Baton Rouge and from the other side of B.R on into Hammond. A few years back the local sheriff types in (iirc) Tangihapoa Parish (Hammond, et al) were caught on cop-car cameras planting drug evidence on innocent out-of-staters in order to seize the cars--were too stupid to turn off/wipe the vid. Truly scary stuff..

Shortly before I arrived at NAVBASE Dam Neck, VA the base police used to place drugs in cars found in the parking lots at the commissary and PX and train their drug detector dogs on them. They'd retrieve the drugs and the owner, all unaware would drive off base only to be met at the front gate the next morning on his way to work and find the drug detector dogs were checking all cars and woe to the sailor who owned a car that 'smelled' of drugs and alerted the police to it. They were finally caught in the act and the Base CO had them all shot and their bodies thrown in a swamp.
