IMMIGRANT STYLE SCHOOL FOOD

I'm not sure what the kerfuffle is in the school food programs around the country. It seems obvious to me that schools and school districts should just ignore the new federal rules just exactly the way the administration ignores federal immigration laws. After all, what's the worst that can happen?

I think this says it pretty much (from the link): "The result has been more than 1 million students dropping out of the program and more than $1 billion in food waste." It's the waste that gets me.

I fail to see any of it. To start with, why do schools serve lunch in the first place? They never did it when I was at school in Carlisle, Leavenworth, Annandale, Fort Riley, Newport, or Huntsville. They offered prepared glop in Denville. How hard is it to bring a sandwich and an apple plus, if you're dead unlucky, a twinkie in a brown bag and eat that for lunch?
It is the waste that kills me. Up until the 4 of us left home my father had a very fair allowance in place for all of us; 25 cents/week. None of us actually drew it from him after we turned 8 because he made it excruciatingly painful and bureaucratic. We all learned and we all found ways to make serious money without tapping the giant cash reserves of our allowance and none of us would spend a dime on buying a school lunch. We'd skip class and go to MacDonalds. :)

I'm going to have to write something about this.

I've had kerfuffle. It can be good if it's prepared right.
Nice photo of Mrs. RBF

Well, kerfuffle is best served cold. It's not like left over pizza you know.
