McCabe is gone now but I enjoy this January encomium of Holder's total support for a scumbag we all wish we could wash in the Potomac down there at the mouth of the Chesapeake where the Bull sharks roam wild and free.

I get a kick out of this report from the daily mail. 

Former Attorney General Eric Holder came to McCabe's defense Monday afternoon. 

'FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is, and has been, a dedicated public servant who has served this country well. Bogus attacks on the FBI and DOJ to distract attention from a legitimate criminal inquiry does long term, unnecessary damage to these foundations of our government,' Holder wrote on Twitter.

With "friends" like Holder, one doesn't really need enemies. Holder is, of course, the Attorney General held in Contempt-of-Congress for refusing to testify about an investigation.

I wonder what happened to the legitimate criminal inquiry into Hillary Clinton who, manifestly and obviously violated espionage laws along with all those who shared classified information on her private little unclassified and illegal mail server. Way too many people have gone to jail, some for decades, for violating the same espionage law.

TRUMP WALKS ON TYPHOONS OF HATE

I read Surber as a kind of afterthought.

He nails it with his article on Trump. The democrats are on the glide path to doom. The GOP leadership has elected to take the jet powered slope to doom. Jet powered is the way to go. One can only hope that all the McCains crash and burn on this approach to politics. I'm not sure what's wrong with electors in Arizona but they have relentlessly elected FLAKES to high office. Surely we deserve better than Flakes and McCains.

There is some expression of doubt that the media machine didn't feed the Hillary campaign the questions that were going to be posed to the candidates during the last presidential debate. The media leaped to deny the very idea that they would be such low-down dirty rotten scoundrels.



And why wouldn't we believe them? Surely they are as honest as the democratic politicians they service.



Watching the ObamaCare scheme going down in flames was terribly predictable. The government is like Amtrak. Only a government run monopoly that charges $9 for a hamburger on a train could go broke selling food.

Interesting developments that I missed. I'm not much of food science guy so it was never a staple of my reading. There's an interesting book review about a book written by a vegan/vegetarian who fell off the wagon recently and wrote an in-depth book about the diets of people.  The quote below was taken from the comments section between Rob and Paleo Huntress and is part of her response to his arguments about Okinawa diet featuring carbohydrates.

Earlier, The Clinical Nutritionist chimed and set the record straight with this gem:

“Essential” means that your body can not make it. You must get it from your food. There is NO SUCH THING as essential carbohydrates.

Yes, yes, I'm sure these things were well known to my astute readers but I haven't seen either of them anywhere else before this. I mean this is truly dangerous knowledge. You wouldn't want your minor children finding out that there is no dietary excuse for strained carrots or any vegetable once it is known to them that there really is no valid reason to eat them.

How the glorious revolutionary debate team failed last night.

Of the 16,000 words uttered by Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and moderators Gwen Ifil and Judy Woodruff, not one of them concerned Clinton’s deepening email scandal. Not one mention of the words email, e-mail, private server or FBI. 

Not a single media question or opponent mention of the huge legal cloud hanging over the party’s presumptive nominee. Nor of the ongoing FBI investigation into unauthorized use of her unsecured private email server for government business, including loose handling of Top Secret documents endangering national security intelligence-gathering and covert operations. 

Not any reference to the State Department Inspector General’s subpoena to the Clinton Foundation exploring possible connections between foreign government donations possibly trying to curry favor during Clinton’s four-year tenure as Obama’s secretary of State. 

Oh, and not a single word either about Benghazi, the murder of four Americans there, the phony video excuse, the lack of rescue or reinforcement attempts and any Clinton responsibility for the well-documented poor consulate security. Nothing on tax or entitlement reforms. National debt. 

A complete pass for Hillary Clinton. Whoosh! Home free. Other than that, it was a serious grilling about being female, admiring Obama, taxing the rich more, free stuff and other liberal issues.

One of the nicer but lesser known aspects to the tragedy of mob violence is how often the instigators of the mobs get torn to pieces by the disillusioned mobs they created and led. Something to look forward to.

Earlier, a slightly different mob composed of many of the same radicalized idiots were baying after young single men who had the temerity to breath the campus air without paying the jizzya demanded by the RAs, the Womyn's Special Study Group and the Campus Title IX Office of the Special Prevention of Campus Sex between Men and Women.

Still, I always keep at the back of my mind the likely fate of the leaders of such mobs.

DEAD WHITE COMMON CORE MATH PROBLEMS

I've heard about the common core math requirement but I don't really understand it despite being the father of a 12 year old. Not really anything new. I was never particularly good at math. Good enough, mind you, to fool the teachers, but not myself. I know the difference since I was unable to fool the music teacher into believing I could read music. The proving was a dismal melody.

One of the drawbacks to a peripatetic life is changing schools frequently and leaving behind any expectation that you, "must surely remember your lessons from last year!" Which, because I didn't share the same lessons, meant the answer was usually a big fat no. That whole orderly progression through the numbers and fractions and base 10 were all a separate slice out of the giant ball of quarks that is math to me.

I had an interesting dinner discussion with a friend from California who is passionate about the common core and raising 2 boys who are taking two different approaches to it. One flies by the rules and the other is content to write the answer and leave it at that. That's where I came in, made a mark and left the building. What is wrong with just writing the answer, I wondered. She told me I didn't understand the process as part of the solution and without showing the process, the solution had no meaning.... My brain started to revert to what it had been like when it was shiny and new and seldom used (back when I was 14-21 years of age.

Oh, I thought. "Could you show me the process you used to reach the correct answer to the following problems," I asked her. Add the numbers together and show your work:

Well, I could go on with higher math but why bother. The process is important but immaterial if one has the correct solution. Why would anyone take away points if the process is not shown but the solution is correct? You know the kind of person who holds fast to a thing they think they know and won't let go even if it kills them? There's one out there reading this and going, "screw the Romans, what did they ever do? The process must be shown or the answer doesn't count!"

I woke up and went upstairs to my computer and then I seemed to take a step backward in time. As I listen to the little birds across the street, it seems more common than it used to be.

My mother asked me to pick up a book she had reserved at the local branch of the Arlington Library. As a dutiful son, I walked that half mile to pick up the 15 pound book and brought it home, sort of under my arm. I mean that book was seriously heavy.

I'm actually an historian. I think you would enjoy any of these links, particularly the Bulwer-Lytton one. We remember him for his 'dark and stormy night' but there was so much more.

SQUARELY ON THE HEAD

I worked with our country teams in the Middle East a long time and think that the article nails the FSO's to the wall with their own pointed barbed words. One has to see to believe how meaningless the State Department has made Ambassadors and our Embassies.

PARENT

I have been reading for many years that parenthood is a fading art. Like all lecherous old men I would be happy to introduce youngsters to the grace that is parenthood. I digress. We went out this evening for beer and pizza and none of us had pizza. The only beer quaffed was by the woman whose husband is in Chicago. The rest of us selected caffeine or water. When I was 20 I never saw this coming. :)

All of us are young 20 somethings but it was a family friendly pizza place and the families and youngsters were there in spades, spandex, matching sport bras well dressed appropriately for -5 degree weather.  I liked them all. They were all good kids and fun. It didn't stop me from pointing dramatically to a corner and shouting, 'dragon!' and stealing the even numbered pepperonis.

When the young family behind me had dessert, one of our party said, "that looks good." It did indeed look delicious. They were two little boys out with mom and dad so I gently said, "look! A dragon." Both boys looked for the dragon while their da explained to them, with humor, how that trick worked while slicing off another sly bit of pie.

I think it is interesting that one can tell, in just a glance, if one is dealing with people who will go along with light harmless humor; and turn away instantly from people you know won't do the humor thing at all and take massive umbrage if you dare it.

I never bring umbrage to the table; way to cumbersome. It was a very good evening out with friends.......and dragons.

TYRANTS EVERYWHERE WANT TO SHUT IT DOWN

I think it's interesting that every tyrant everywhere in the world finds some reason to shut down the internet or at least bring it under their thumb. This guy is a little different in that he is merely the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom. He has literally tens of thousands of young girls being groomed for rape and then passed around like party favors to muslim gangs and his police do nothing to stop it. He is apparently more concerned that the internet is a scary unregulated place that cries out for police and government spies to monitor it and cite people for "cyber-crimes."

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has warned that the internet is becoming a 'dark and ungoverned' place for paedophiles, murderers and terrorists to safely operate and has called on internet companies to do more to protect the public from the so-called 'deep' internet.

Hey big guy! Why don't you throw yourself into stopping the horrible crimes that are happening on every street in your country?

PROGRESSIVE PEACE TALKS IN CIVIL WAR

A Civil War divides a nation and out of NPR come those who demand peace talks. Yes, I just listened to NPR again, damn my soul, and they want progressive peace talks, along the lines of our peace talks with the PLO, Muslim Brotherhood, Al Kaeda, the Taliban, Iran, the Cali drug Cartel, etc, but now they think we need to jump into Syria. They want a "negotiated end" to the Muslim War in Syria.

Can't you see these same progressives intervening in the American Civil War 150 years ago and just insisting that Lincoln drop his stance on the Emancipation Proclamation since he didn't really believe in freeing the slaves anyway? You know, just as a useful tidbit for negotiations with the South over their legitimate grievances. [off sarc//]

Expediency is the ruling star of politics and war. One should always keep that in mind.
