There is an old saying, much garbled, by George Santayana. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
The more I read, the more I am convinced that progressive liberals are people who simply refuse to believe history and are anxious to condemn the rest of us to repeat the most grisly bits again and again and again.
A brief query, using wikipedia into an obscure island in the middle of the Pacific, led to a 3 hour reading binge ending finally with The War of the Pacific between Chile, Bolivia and Peru. The will to be stupid is the strongest force on earth.
