I FOUND MINE

In this, the new nuclear era, it is good to know where your local fallout shelter is. I found mine across the street. I doubt it has any water or crackers left over from 1962 but at least I know where to go to be safe from the fallout and radiation and we have plenty of cookies and water.

Only Fallout Shelter I've seen in years and it's right across the street

HELL OF A JOB OBAMA

People living in Hawaii got a rude wake up and lesson in shameless Obama diplomacy. They learned for the first time that Obama, Kerry and Clinton all lied when they assured them that Obama had reached a binding agreement with North Korea on missile technology and nuclear weapons that would surely lead to nothing but peace in our time. For 38 minutes many of them got to contemplate the awfulness that will happen if/when the Democratic People's Republic of Korea decides to just go ahead and attack and lash them with bugs and gas and nukes on long range missiles.

I dare say 99% of the people living in Hawaii never even suspected that one day they would get a nuclear wake-up call. I dare say they're thinking about it now and wondering what all that endless negotiation with north Korea achieved since it is now quite obvious that the goal that the Kim's have been working toward for the last 50 years is now well within their grasp and that an attack on Hawaii has gone from a distant dream to a near certain reality.

On the other hand, the norKs have demonstrated a certain ability to loft missiles into the upper atmosphere and space itself but there is no evidence that they have any targeting capability beyond a rudimentary ability to hit the Pacific Ocean, somewhere. Even that isn't certain since evidence shows that many of the tests end in failure of the reentry vehicle. On the gripping hand, if one is going to shoot for a electromagnetic pulse above someplace, like Hawaii, an air burst high in the stratosphere will do well enough to knock out much of Hawaii's network infrastructure.

It looks like civilization, such as it is in the DPRK, is collapsing. When I was young we believed that the regime was propped up almost solely by its grip on the Army and security forces. The Party was nothing but the bustle to a Kim and followed wherever they led but was a powerless rump. Reading reports of recent army defectors crossing the DMZ who are lousy with vermin, worms and anthrax anti-bodies is a sign that the bastion of the dynasty is crumbling.

As the USSR collapsed and faded away and China relaxed its hard line stance and restarted down the path to success and prosperity one thing we accepted as absolutely true of Kim Jong-il was that he would not go gently into the peaceful night but would take the South and as much of the world as he could reach into the dark with him. Kim Jong-un is very much of the same mold and likely to do the unthinkable.

I think people living in Hawaii now know what the unthinkable looks like and may well be a bit more interested in our diplomatic and military relations with the Korean peninsula. The real concern is obvious to see for those with eyes to see. Japan, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea are probably all well along in their nuclear weapons development and all of them are probably hard at work on making weapons grade fissile materials to build the bombs their engineers could undoubtedly design in a couple of days.

A new dawn in the Far East and mid-Pacific. Thanks Obama, thanks Hillary, thanks Kerry. Kim couldn't have done it without you and Madeline Albright and Bill Clinton.

YOUR ACTUAL CRUISE MISSILE

As I've said, all the messing about with rockets and missiles in North Korea is a scam designed to distract attention from their real nuclear cruise missile program which is fully deployed and ready for instant action come the day.

Cruise missile arriving in New York City
It looks a lot like the topmost middle container on the delivery system shown above. As you can see, the delivery system is capable of multiple independent reinforced deliveries and has global reach. The actual 'missile body' costs roughly $70,000 although nuclear armed countries may get a discount. To quote somebody or other, "size and weight of the warhead is not an issue anymore."

INTERMEDIATE RANGE NUCLEAR MISSILES

I was listening to Socialist People's Radio (NPR) this afternoon and listened to a pair of smarmy lickspittles discussing the issue of Russia's intermediate range nuclear missile deployments. These weapons were banned by the Reagan administrations negotiations and treaty with the USSR in 1987.

The treaty gave both parties the right to conduct inspections of just about any site where ground launched cruise missiles or intermediate range ballistic missiles were produced. That gave the Soviets and Russians the right to enter my classified workspace and search around for anything that might look like a Transporter Erector Launcher TEL since the Air Force and General Dynamics used to build those at Air Force Plant 19 in Old Town, San Diego at what used to be the Consolidated Vultee production facility and is now home to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. We were admonished to keep all of our secrets in spaces smaller than the footprint of the old TELs so the Russians could be barred from searching anything or space smaller than an actual TEL.

My old office top floor and where LockMart/ULA used to make the fuel tanks for Atlas Launchers
The National People's Radio discussed Trump's flailing Russian policy with the lickspittle commenter noting for us that Trump had no Russian policy and probably wouldn't until he got around to filling the National Security Advisor position and the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense (Policy) jobs and got some Deputy Secretary at State that could comprehend Russia.

What I despise about NPR is that they cherry pick 100% of their guests to follow the liberal chains of thought on all policy or topics and never give so much of a hint about what is really going on by asking some actual spokesperson from the non-liberal half of the country to come on and comment. The lickspittle guest did observe that Russia violated the INF treaty in 2014 during Obama's administration but offered no hint as to what measures Obama adopted to challenge or counter this violation and the NPR lickspittle naturally let him off the hook and didn't ask any of the obvious questions that immediately occur to anybody with a functioning brain.

It's pretty sad. I used to be able (many years ago) to listen to NPR for up to an hour at a time. These days it's down to about 1 minute/day. Oh well, MetroParkCentralis has some excellent music stations.

HOPING THEY BOTH LOSE

There appears to be a breakdown in relations between Arabia and Persia. That's never happened before and it doesn't bode well for the oil burners of the present and future. It's a good thing Europe has an almost purely atomic powered electrical grid and doesn't need anything from the Middle East.

It's at times like this that I am always amused by the thundering herd who bleat about the dangers of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz because somehow that will have negative effects on Persia's enemies. Yep, for all the talk about it as a tactic, the illuminati never wonder where Persia is going to sell its own oil products if it cannot move them out of the Persian Gulf. As far as I know they still don't have any new oil ports on the North Arabian Sea and let's all laugh at the idea of them building a pipeline through Kurdistan.

The interesting offbeat is that the countries have no power to damage each other without slitting their own economic throats. Yes, historically both regions were insanely dangerous to each other but that was when they could fight each other through southern Iraq. That's not really possible anymore. Iran and Iraq fought up and down the Al Faw Peninsula for 8 years without making any significant progress. The Kingdom and the Emirates were happy to fund Saddam and his Army against the mad mullahs because everybody was in complete agreement that it was way better for Iraq to fight Iran than to turn its eyes and armies toward Arabia. And besides, nobody likes a crazy mad shiite mullah.

The two sides fought the Tanker War against defenseless ships which saw almost daily air raids on oil terminals in Iran and Iraq and attacks on all neutral oil tankers in the Arabian Gulf. None of the countries involved built, owned or operated the oil tankers attacked but neither Iran nor Iraq suffered any particular downside to blindly attacking them as soon as they could be found. Trust me, it's not hard to find a VLCC tanker.

It will be interesting to see if the Saud's close the door to all Persians interested in making the Haj next year. It's also time to start speculating about the first use of nukes since the last time they were used on "the other." With their help, we went a long way towards dehumanizing Japanese and made enormous strides in cleaving them, root and branch, from civilization.  We did the same with Germans too. Sunnis and Shia adopted that strategy over a thousand years ago and no longer see the other as human or made in a form pleasing to God. The million dinar question is, will they put business before pleasure and nuke civilization first or just yield to their heart's desire and nuke the apostates first?

Think about it. In an insane and inept war fought by two muslim superpowers, they united to attack....neutrals and civilization. They both found that there was no 'Center-of-Gravity' worth attacking in either Iraq or Iran. Even if the capital fell to attack or destruction, it wouldn't affect the levee en masse of the militant muslims making up the force. Look at Afghanistan. The Taliban fought all comers for a generation and then fought the Northern Alliance to a standstill but there was no end to the war even though there was no means to go on.

The two can engage in futile irritating tit-for-tat strikes on each other but to little point and no advantage. I think they'll both turn to attacking civilization in the hope that they will get from us, sitting at the negotiation table, what they cannot get from each other. Will we do the historic thing and send both sides $billions in order to keep them from our throats as Europeans did with the Barbary Pirates, or will we happily invest a little in helping them all slit their own throats?

Stay tuned.

A RADIOACTIVE MOMENT

When you think about it, when islamists do get the bomb and threaten to nuke us they are almost certainly going to nuke New York City, Washington DC or a major city in California. That's a real pity and my heart bleeds for all the liberals who are going to suffer a radioactive moment that will last a lifetime.

Well, I suppose they could but it would not end well. Next time, use nukes.

I'LL RAISE MY GLASS

Mark Steyn has embarked on a legal counter-attack on a rather loathsome man who had the opportunity to watch and admire Steyn as he eviscerated the muslim despoilers of truth and freedom of speech in Canada who brought suit against him there for speaking no less than the truth about islam. This noted academic unquestionably knew what he was dealing with when he decided to sue Steyn for attacking his pet political theory but went ahead anyway and filed a lawsuit against Steyn and entities that used to matter when it came time to stand up and be numbered with Truth, Justice and the American Way of life. In other words, the idiot knew he was smearing himself in BBQ sauce prior to throwing himself into a pool filled with piranha and went ahead and did it anyway.

I enjoyed watching Steyn wage a war against seventh century muslim thugs and their government enablers in Canada. Canada had sunk to such a low estate I did not think that he would prevail. I don't know how anybody with an academic bent of mind could rationalize filing a law suit against the man who prevailed in the kangaroo courts of Canada.

Glasses up,

"He either fears his fate too much,
Or his desserts are small,
Who dares not put it to the touch,
To win or lose it all."

Journals and journalists carry libel insurance as a matter of routine. Do you suppose professors at Penn State are in the habit of carrying any kind of legal insurance to pay $10 million dollar legal judgements against them? Yeah, me neither.

OUTLANDISH UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIMS

The Fukushima Dai Ichi nuclear meltdown was no accident. It was the cover and deception contingency plan developed to disguise an accidental release of radioactivity from Japan's Top Secret nuclear research and warhead production facility.
Regrettably, the immediate nature of the radiation leaking from the weapon manufacturing site necessitated premature use of Japan's scalar resonance weapon which was used to create the earthquake and tidal wave that "led" to the meltdown at Fukushima.

Japanese workers who bravely worked in the plants in a futile attempt to prevent the meltdown were unaware of the plan and the need for the reactor cores to melt down and contaminate a critical area of Japan and stretches of the Pacific Ocean.
Scientists are only now rationalizing earlier discoveries that showed a sizable increase in the number of neutrons floating in the Pacific. They have been linked by top scientists at the Climate Research Institute in Wallingford, NH, to Neutron Bombs!

DPRK cries foul and demands a recount!

I'll be around, just not around here much. We are taking a trip.

THE TRUTH SIMPLY ISN'T IN THEM

Iran's Foreign Minister announced today that the White House is lying. Quotes from The Washington Free Beacon.
“What has been released by the website of the White House as a fact sheet is a one-sided interpretation of the agreed text in Geneva and some of the explanations and words in the sheet contradict the text of the Joint Plan of Action, and this fact sheet has unfortunately been translated and released in the name of the Geneva agreement by certain media, which is not true,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham told the Iranian press on Tuesday.
Afkham and officials said that the White House has “modified” key details of the deal and released their own version of the agreement in the fact sheet.
Iran’s right to enrich uranium, the key component in a nuclear weapon, is fully recognized under the draft released by Tehran.
What kind of idiot and moron and dishonest scoundrel puts out a translation that cannot and will not survive contact with the enemy?

You're not surprised. I can see it from here. I cannot think of anything put out by the White House staff or its resident that wasn't a complete lie when examined for truthfulness.

THEY BETTER ARM THEMSELVES

REPOSTED and UPDATED

Our intentions have been revealed for all to see now. And now the Saudis will reveal that they have their own nuclear weapon stockpile compiled one warhead and bomb at a time from the wreckage of the USSR. Everything there is for sale and the Saudis have a lot of dollars.

The United States has genuine friends in the Middle East. I hope that they are gearing up for a major regional war without us. I think for a number of years those who went out of their way to ally with the US did so primarily because they viewed Iran as their major and most implacable enemy. Iraq and Saddam dreamed of being the reborn satrap of the Ottoman Empire and wanted Kuwait back in the fold but Persia was worse. From a geopolitical point of view she was very much the lion in the room and she has historic claims to the Persian Gulf and everything around it and Persians are not Arabs. Those were the good old days.

For many decades Persia has been actively waging a religious fueled and driven attack on all the Sunni emirates and Kingdoms. She has actively engaged in systematic destabilization of the State using religious means. Clausewitz would have fun with that one. If war is diplomacy by other means, what is using religious hysteria as an extension of diplomacy? Iran has been attacking all of the rest of the Middle East using its religious supremacy of the Shia muslims to goad them to overthrow the Sunni rulers and join the islamic caliphate as another islamic republic. Sort of like how the Soviet Union running the Communist International used liberals to overturn the rational leaders of the world community and become a Soviet Republic. It was very hard on the rationalists, starting with the countries of Eastern Europe. In Africa and Asia the COMINTERN used nationalism to overthrow the remains of imperial rule and then destroy the stability of whole continents.

Saudi Arabia seems like a backward and inward facing region to people that haven't been there. That's largely because it appears to give that impression. It's not at all what people in the West think. One might say the same thing about Bahrain and Kuwait and some would say it about the United Arab Emirates and Oman. What liberals fail to see is that all of those countries are very stable and well governed. In each of them the ruling family and the ruling class decided early on to hold the line on civilization and power-sharing.

They didn't fail to note that civilization itself suffered wherever in the world power-sharing was applied either by the liberals or the nationalists who fell sway to the COMINTERN. The COMINTERN had only one purpose and that was to create satraps of the Soviet Union. In the Middle East, Iran was using the Shia to overthrow stability, toss the country into chaos and then use religious fundamentalism to destroy the state and become an islamic republic.

I think it is very clear now that nobody in the Middle East or anywhere else in the world can rely upon the United States for diplomatic or military support. This is a struggle that they will have to deal with with their own resources or turn into another Libya, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Gaza. They knew that decades ago when they agreed to band together after the first Gulf War. As Shia violence ramped up to topple the government in Bahrain the US did nothing but the Saudis sent in heavily armed troops and shots were fired and people thrown in jail.

The gloves came off in response to both the violence in Bahrain and the Arab Spring. They accept that if government cracks and lets the mob win it will destroy the state. They've seen it now with their own eyes and there is only solution. Violence will be countered with violence and repression and if you're a violent person seeking to overthrow the state you have just two remaining options, death or imprisonment.

Here in the west the liberals are going to whine about the death and imprisonment and seek to 'end the misery' and 'get the government to negotiate power-sharing agreements.' Well I think the remaining Arab rulers know that simply isn't a realistic option anymore, not with these people.

So the question is, what are we going to do to all the religious, hysteric, government and authority hating zealots created by Persia? Because another option would be to deport them. Does anyone on earth want them?

CAMPING OUT ON THE RIVER STYX

The Hoover Institute has written another splendid little article on the perils of broke-down diplomacy. It seems that our egregious failures to deal with the Syrians to Saudi Arabia's entire satisfaction engenders more dangers then we knew. Most of the 9/11 hijackers and mass murderers were Saudi citizens showing their appreciation for the "hard line" diplomatic approach of President Bush and his team of foreign policy experts. We can't seem to keep our Saudi constituents happy no matter what we do. Oh well. I didn't vote for them either.

One of the less talked about secrets I have discovered here in the Fly-Over states is that people here earnestly don't care if Iran or Syria gets the bomb. About half of the people here think it would be a good thing for one reason and the other half think it would be a good reason for another perfectly different reason. You see the problem of course. If fanatical, filled with hate salafists and 'moderate' muslims get the bomb they're going to use it on us. But, and this is the important part, those guys are just clever enough to use it on just two targets and none of us live in Washington DC or New York City so we don't care.  OK, so they might also use it on San Francisco, that den of google evil, and we perniciously persist in not caring about that place either.

Try the do it yourself nuclear bomb simulator.

UPDATE
Sucks to be you Washington DC and New York City.

MORE THAN A LITTLE ALARMING

We seem to be having a little trouble with our nuclear weapon overseers. It started off sioply enough with the investigation into the Deputy Commander of Strategic Command. Today we learn of the removal of the general in charge of all U.S. land-based nuclear missiles who was fired for no particular given reason.

A three-star navy admiral and a 2 star air force general given the heave-ho for things that appear to have nothing at all to do with their duties or assignments. You have to wonder how long this can go on. In the past we accept that to err was human and while we were hoping for the best we were happy to accommodate some minor personal foibles and accepted that clay feet were more the norm than not. We kind of expected total professionalism while on duty.

It does make one wonder what happened when it really mattered and the nukes started rolling around.  How many people involved got fired?

There have been a few more nuclear weapon incidents than most people realize. Lots of atomic and hydrogen bombs have fallen off aircraft or gone missing. Missiles have suffered from fairly catastrophic events such as a this Titan missile outside Damascus.
The nuclear warheads were blown hundreds of feet away when the Titan missile exploded in the silo.

I sure hope that the powers-that-be are concentrating as much on the safety of our nuclear arsenal as they are on what our admirals and generals get up to when they are not at work.

UNRESTRAINED TERROR

While searching the tubes for invisible crocodiles earlier this week I found this, and I wonder,

does Hagel scare the Russians as much as he scares me?
