TRUTH

I've been saying this since the beginning of the current farce.

It seems to me that an awful lot of really stupid people think that this is something that we will 'get over' and move on with our lives once again untrammeled by the vagaries of a semi-organism so tiny it takes a very powerful microscope to see. That's never going to happen. It is out and about now and it always will be from now until the ending of the world.

I see the issue being one of people staying at home with a lot of time on their hands getting down to reading a lot of novels about "zombie plague virus attacks". they had forgotten that fiction novels-even science fiction novels-are works of FICTION.
these folks need to be reminded that there is such a thing as science fact.
hiding in their basement bomb shelter until the "plague" passes them by is one of my favorite things to hear/read about. so funny; I consider it a marketing ploy for dehydrated food stocks, guns, ammo, etc. note that it wasn't until early april until the marketing caught up with the virus spread and one saw more advertising for products for those willing to stick their head into the sand dune.
this virus, like many virus, will stay in the world until the end of time. it will mutate as all virus we know of do. it will mutate more benign and it will mutate more virulent. thank china for making it possible for this virus to become what it is, and deal with the results of it.
I think of this virus as a economic weapon as much as a bioweapon. it is able to latch onto humans better than many other corona virus'. it didn't hurt that the chinese "helped" some political leaders along the path to panic and economic meltdown. absolutely destroyed the economies of some western europe nation states. italy and spain come to mind. as for africa, how could you tell if it got worse than it was before the virus arrived there; we have no metric to measure that except for the growing involvement of china in the growth of africa's infrastructure and economies.
at any rate, any one who in the last fifty years has had military service and paid attention to the NBC training the military provided probably has a better grasp of what works and doesn't for combating the after effects of a virus/bacterium/chemical/nucleotide attack. someone with a degree in gender studies or basket weaving-interchangeable disciplines-probably not so much.

I'm afraid that about 98% of the people I know now don't have a clue about NBC or UTAWBAG. I see the lowest common denominator too often at the store in front of me. They're the one that almost act surprised that they have to pay money for the stuff they put on the counter and take about 10 times longer to do it than ordinary smart people. OTOH, I was at a CVS here several years ago and a gentleman in front of me who was about 70 had to have the clerk read things to him because he had never learned to read. He was born here, educated here and still didn't have a clue how to read. Some days I feel like I'm surrounded by the likes of him. It's why I will always default to the longer line at the grocery store rather than stand in line behind one of the elect precious 11% who also has XX chromosomes. My time is too precious to waste.

The lockdowns were intended to "slow the peak", which they may or may not have done, but a boatload of idiot politicians are now thinking "if a little slowed it down, a lot could stop it altogether". Wrong. The thing is, many more people than expected had some form of immunity already, and it seems more who've had it likely gain more, for future passes. The worst thing they may have done, with lockdowns, is let the virus have more time to mutate, instead of letting more resist this admittedly weak version.

We'll all get the infection, 99.96% of us will get over it and life will go on. Or, we can hide under the bed until we starve, and 0.04% of us will get over it, and life will go on.

Your odds get better if you get out and get to work. If everyone gets out and gets to work, everyone's odds get much better.

The two of us pay no mind to it, at all. To live in fear is no way to live at all.
