YOU'RE PEOPLE AREN'T YOU

From the beginning the systems were created to spy on people. Echelon and Prism and every other means of spying on people applied to you too.
You seriously thought that just because they said it was designed to spy on the Soviet Union that it would not be turned on you? Srsly?
The people that designed and built these systems didn't do it because they wanted to know.

They did it because they wanted to control.

Power and control - that's what it always comes back to.

But remember the words of Marx: Man does not control his own fate. The women in his life do that for him.

(That was Groucho Marx.)

I like yer quote, Anne. Groucho was much more perceptive than Karl.

I think your Guinness photo is of the antenna farm at RAF Menwith Hill, which has ALWAYS been the source of much angst in the UK, dating back at least to 1980 when I was stationed in London.

While I agree with your larger point, you wouldn't believe some of the tripe I read in the British press about Menwith Hill.

I got a kick out of Echelon when they started talking about it back in the 90s. I figured something that scary to liberals couldn't be all bad. Does make one wonder how anybody could wade through the mass of data even using key word searching and known bad guys for initial points.

Anne, Ha Ha. :) Darn Marxists!
