The don't have to get a conviction...that would be a bonus. The goal is to just keep grinding on Trump, costing him money, keeping him occupied with legal hassles instead of campaigning. And since the criminals at the DOJ doing this never suffer any consequences and the costs of this insanity are borne by the taxpayers they have zero reason to not continue this indefinitely. So they will.
It's not even about getting a conviction.
The process is the punishment.
