IT ISN'T LOOKING GOOD ABE

Our little train seems to have jumped off the tracks. I'm not sure anything can set it right again short of another Civil War. I had also thought and hoped that President Lincoln had the last word on Civil Wars in this part of the world.
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I think we are heading away from the proposition that all men are created equal at warp speed these days. It doesn't get any stupider when people today cannot tell the difference between men and women, boys and girls and get all wrapped up in the excesses of their libido that probably should be left in the bedroom or at least at home where it belongs.

It's a terrible place where a plutocrat or two can totally squeeze the President of this country out of the market place of ideas and forbid him to speak or write as he wills because they control the media. It also sucks that the idiot that will take over as president has already vowed to scrap the 2nd Amendment. I would not be at all surprised to learn that there are now patriots thinking about how to take the war to the enemy of the Republic and all that it stands for.

I've always thought that the Gettysburg Address was a wonderful bit of rhetoric. I've also thought what a pity it is that the whole thing is a monstrous lie. The only way it could be true would be if it had been addressed to the Southern dead. Instead we got government of some of the people by the other people, for the second group of people.

We are no longer a country of laws.
