This tweet is not what I expected out of Neil deGrass Tyson. When I saw the headline in instapundit I expected more of the usual liberal progressive communist disarm the people rant but this caught me totally by surprise.
I don't think they actually have any. Watching them rubbing their sore heads after going into deepest darkest Oakland to film a story for the 11 O'clock news and then bemoaning the fact that they were all beaten and robbed and all their gear was stolen was always somehow amusing to me. Watching them defend Baltimore is a laugh right up there with watching them defend DC as a playground for the wealthy.
when it comes to public slaughter, it's hard to beat out chicago. every now and then, I check the latest statistics on heyjackass.com. It's like Cronkite reporting on casualties figures in vietnam. so far this year, chicago has had 1657 people shot and 306 of them dead. 81% of the shooters were POC. One doesn't hear facts like that coming out the mouths of any of the main stream media or print media. talk about the spectacle. something orwell wrote resonates here. if you don't tell the public anything about it, what do you think the public would know? look as hard as you want; a detailed fact finding of shootings in baltimore is not available to the public as it is for chicago. I applaud Dr. Tyson for pointing out the obvious to the people who are oblivious to facts and base all their decisions on emotions...
and I do keep in mind that chicago has the most rigorous gun control laws in the nation, even requiring a permit to enter a gun shop. and yet, the killings continue and the complicit media is silent. perhaps the problem is not with the gun.
One of the things I found interesting is that the shootings happen in a handful of blocks but they happen over and over and over and over. I just wonder why the fools living there just don't MOVE! It is always the same few blocks.
I would not count on it but sometimes the truth is like a bludgeon that strikes out of the blue and it takes on the aspect of a 'clue stick'. In this case, I think the clue stick outed some words he otherwise wouldn't have written.
I recall a short scene from the raiders of the lost ark film. in a classroom, the lead character states "in archaeology 101 you will learn to discern facts, those seeking truths should go to room 12 for philosophy 101". It may not be factual in the retelling, but it does provide a useful distinction for fact and truth.

The data is correct and is simply common sense, but common sense is the most uncommon of senses among the media.
