MORE ETHNIC CLEANSING

It never stops. It never ends. People just can't seem to get along.
The Taliban have taken over in Kentucky and they are blowing up ancient statues that they find terribly offensive and unGodly. It's kind of funny how they all find some wonderful justification for sweeping away the history they don't like.

A Monument to the Men Who Fought For Kentucky

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

They'll be digging up Arlington National Cemetery next.

UPDATE: A judge has barred the Ministry of Truth from carrying out its planned vandalism, for now.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist and the F-ing communists had it coming!
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because they were Socialists too to F#$% them too.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because (see one and 2 above).
Then they came for me— And I shot them in the face.

The original version of this poem is about how communists should all stick together against fascists. Screw them. I am not with them and am not going to stand with them. There is no solidarity between their kind and mine.

Same idiotic deal in New Orleans where a black maj city council (natch) wants to remove the statue Gen Lee from atop a 60' corinthian column in Lee Circle just off the French quarter and also a bronze statue of PT Beauregard in front of the Art Museum in City Park. So far death threats and sabotage has meant that no contractor in the area will touch the projects.

Idiotic attempts were made circa 1998 to close the Civil War Museum near Lee Circle (which houses the 2nd largest collection of Civil War memorabilia in America outside of the one in Richmond and is a huge tourist draw) and disperse its contents throughout the state (to undoubtedly be relegated to sit in the basements of various universities and city halls.) The then Republican Gov found a loophole in the deed of grant of the land upon which it sits and voided the move while also vowing to withdraw all State funding for Univ of New Orleans (which was involved in administering the grant) No moves since, however that there is now a new Donkey Gov and a black maj city council for the first time since Katrina, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until our "African American" brethren take another run at it.

And about Arlington? You're exactly right. They WOULD if they COULD.

PS: And having lived in Louisville for almost 20 years ('76-'95) you can well imagine my strong feelings about THAT move as well. (The only thing that keeps the city from kicking Old Hickory from his tomb in Zachary Taylor Nat cemetery on Brownsboro Rd is that it's Federal but I'm sure the pressure groups will get around to lobbying for that as well if the Hildabeast wins the election.)

NOLA has always been a place of special horror to me. I didn't like the city or the people and yeah, I went to high school in Alabama so it isn't a southren thing. The people i met in the French Quarter in NOLA were the dregs. Nagrin was no surprise to me.

I despise the ones that want to practice their viral cleanliness on history. This isn't Russia and we don't airbrush history to suit our current mores.

You know they'll dynamite Grant's Tomb in NYC if they can. They all think that history is what they say it is and devil take the hindmost.

Now is a good time to resee Dogma. Just for the pure fun in it.

I prefer your version's ending line. That's the way it will be here. Sorry to be so long posting your comment and responding to it but for some reason it ended up in the spam trap and I only look into that every couple of months. It's usually very reliable.
