Looking into the news just now it came up with a caution to us and the USN in particular that we should not gloat at China's submarine problems. After all, it could have sunk for any reason. Made me think that did.
So, the USNS Big Horn operating south of Oman suddenly becomes the first ship ever to run aground in the North Arabian Sea and every single thing about it is kept very very quiet.
You don't suppose the USNS Big Horn ran over a submarine do you?
I hope it wasn't one of ours.
That far from the subcontinent I doubt that it is an Indian submarine
I don't think the Houthis have any submarines
I'd be very surprised if Egypt has let one of its submarines submerge in more than 20 years
I don't know what to think about Iranian submarines but Jask isn't all that far away.
On the gripping hand, even at full periscope depth colliding with a submerged submarine would damage the bow of the ship hitting it.

Considering the run of self abuse our Navy Navigators have done in the past, especially since the DEI at ALL Costs memo went out, it could happen.
But it would Never happen with one of our Top Of The Line Nuclear subs, would it?
Opps...already has been there done that...
"USS Hartford and USS New Orleans: On March 20th, 2009 in the Strait of Hormuz the nuclear attack submarine USS Hartford collided with the amphibious transport USS New Orleans while at periscope depth."
The Seas are unforgiving and it takes skill, strength, and determination to Survive and Succeed, even more so if you intend to do it submerged.
The only thing Diversity will achieve under such pressures is scattering the remains.

Well, I didn’t want to mention our battle group SSN in direct support but…..anybody hear from it lately?
From what I read I though the damage was aft with engine room flooding and rudder/screw damage. Could the forward part be ballasted up to pass over a rock but the stern be ballasted down and hit the rock? I don't know a lot about ships. When I was a kid my Grandfather used a 3 ft length steel pipe with his windmill. I threw it into the stock tank (pond to Yankees). It disappeared into that muddy water instantly and I thought "That is what they make those big ships out of!". No Navy for this boy.
Perhaps an Iranian Kilo based in Bandar Abbas?
Perhaps. It certainly has been quiet after they launched a couple hundred missiles at London, hasn’t it? I wonder if they were any more accurate then the old V2 rockets we were so scared of in the first Gulf War.
