As always now that I no longer live there, I am eternally amused by Californians. They legislated themselves an energy desert and are calling it a victory. Yes!!! They exclaim, they are slashing the wicked oil companies excess profits and they are doing it by law. You and I know that always works out well so I'm kind of looking forward to Manmade Energy Disaster Part II. I admit I've been looking forward to it since they shut down perfectly good nuclear power plants and demolished them to make way for penguins.
I know one of my more enlightened readers has pointed out that the power generators external to California are not allowed for some reason to charge whatever the traffic will bear like the old California ISO and ENRON and so nixed my idea that every kilowatt sold into California would have an outgoing excise tax of 80% of the cost of production but!!!!! Open the Door to Manmade Crisis Part II.
See below what Manmade Energy Crisis did the first time in California.
This is what happened when utterly corrupt government and industry collude to screw you |
Is there anything that would force oil companies sending tankers loaded with gasoline and diesel to California ports to sell that energy to California at some CA set price? Could Phillips not send tankers to San Francisco piers (and only San Francisco piers) and tell the buyers State of California that it was $10.00/gallon FOB the pier in San Francisco?
The People seem to believe that the Industry has some sort of legal duty to sell to them whatever they want. There is some truth to that but usually only in a market where demand sets the price. When the government tries to set the price it really doesn't work out all that well.

When talking about Californians please distinguish between the regular people and the California Mafia aka State Government.
For 30 years living in both the Bay Area and Greater San Diego I watched while the insanity spread like wildfire and a nominal Republican state went berserk and commie. There is no detectable difference between the electors and the electorate and the government and Bureaucracy in California. The People are getting what they voted for and the sooner the Eastern and Central counties realize that and secede, the better. Besides, we'll need a Republican State to balance the anticipated addition of Puerto Rico to the Nation. I mean once it is thoroughly and completely destroyed they will vote overwhelmingly to become a State and our idiot national government of and by the Uniparty will let them in without even a feeble attempt to balance things and preserve The Republic.
unfortunately quite a few of the fruits and nuts have decided they must evangelize and have begun to move/invade/inculcate outside their natural environs/habitat
when you find them, please kindly/gently suggest they go back for a period of time to -uh? reinvigorate themselves
If the oil/gas companies were smart they would refuse to sell any products to any state government or entity that sues them or attempts to dictate prices or business practices to them then this insanity would end instantly.
I thought gasoline sold in California was refined to special standards mandated by the state. Which is why California-based refiners like Chevron had their refineries set up for California fuel standards. So gasoline refined elsewhere wouldn't even be legal by Cali air pollution requirements.
Yes! Exactly! And therefore any refiner refining it to CA spec on spec could simply charge whatever they want for it if it is furnished from out of state. I can see why the ones still in state care but all of them have names that rhyme with mud in the eyes of the California electorate and government so once they leave they can just turn around and stick it to California while always being most careful not to collude in anyway at all.
