A FASCINATING DEVELOPMENT

Governor DeSantis has signed an Executive Order putting the Florida National Guard and Air National Guard at the disposal of select Florida selected officials to begin repatriation and evacuation of Florida (nationals) from Israel. It rather begs the question, can he have Florida Guard units deploy in support of this mission? Can they take any C5 or C17 aircraft they find lying around anywhere in Florida? Who sets the Rules of Engagement for National Guard forces deployed OCONUS in this mission?

He's the Command in Chief of the Florida Air National Guard, I assume - so I think he does have the authority. That said, I always thought the Air National Guard was a bit of a scam. Thankfully, the Naval Reserve does not have any state interference (i.e., politics) like the National Guard.

it appears he (Governor DeSantis) has jsut stuck a very sharp pointed stick in Joe Biden's eye.
it also probably now requires a statement from The Donald who is not in a (governmental) position to do anything.
this should also incite (to a red-hot fury) the anti-semites around the country, from whom we will most certainly be hearing.

@Tom Murin I did one enlistment in the USAF and joined the GA Air Guard where I had 21 total years in. When I was active duty the only missions I went on were training. As GANG I got deployed to Just Cause in Panama, Desert Watch/Storm, and Southern Watch/OIF1. Both Desert Storm and OIF showed that the Air Guard was usually better trained than Active Duty because we did our military jobs in the civilian world.

Florida Air Guard does not have any cargo plane squadrons. All the FANG can do will be administrative type things.

They do tend to lose it in public and then think that nobody notices.

I remember how bummed one of my LTs was that the CA National Guard didn't have any attack helo squadrons since he wanted to give up being a CEC officer and fly.

Anonymous - my point was that the Air National Guard does not function like a National Guard that is nominally under state control. It's seems interchangeable with the Air Force Reserve which is always fully under Federal control. For war the National Guard would be federalized, of course.

A scam as far as the organization - not the missions.
