You have thoroughly pissed off the last and most senior surviving officer of the KGB who now heads all of Russia which is engaged in a war with a country that has routinely launched missile and aerial attacks on Moscow. Do you really decide to get on a plane outside of Moscow for the direct private flight to St. Petersburg and take off into the wild blue yonder inside Moscow's ADIZ?
I find it hard to believe that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Private Military Company, is/was that unbelievably stupid. I do feel sorry though for the crew and other passengers that died.

Cui Bono, I do wonder why after screwing over the western "intelligence" agencies for several billion dollars (thanks Sockpuppet) and the MOST Dangerous Unit of the Russian armed forces is now disabled?
Odd for someone that has shown great restraint and intelligence for over a decade of western mind*ucks, attempted regime changes and color revolutions.
Who gains the most from this assassination? Cui Bono
It just occurred to me that we're about to find out how professional the Wagner Private Military Company actually is. If they're good, losing one airplane and a commander won't affect their ability.
I have been expecting this for awhile now.
I think we are going to find it is not that simple. PMC are very much cult driven and the leader defines the cult/culture. They are also famous for keeping secrets and if the passwords to the Bank Accounts perished with the top leadership then the PMC will have to refinance and while Niger may be good for a little Wagner, it cannot afford all of it by any means. It is important to keep in mind that Wagner personnel not only got away with wholesale murder, they were encouraged to kill. That level of intense inhumanity doesn't thrive when it is shut down and the Byeloruskis don't want any of that sort of thing inside their country and I doubt that Putin will reinsert them into Ukraine now that he has tuned up his Army and doesn't need them anymore.
