I see that we are going forward with the idiot notion of renaming Confederate Army posts with modern stupid names.
I know how we lost sight of the reason for those names but I'm kind of surprised that nobody had pointed it out.
They were names granted by the Army and the ones in Congress who know that Reconstruction was over and the time to rebuild the Union was at hand and it was a simple graceful costless thing to do.

Not to mention that it honored gallant opponents that had conducted themselves honorably and professionally on the battlefield.
It's only those that stayed home safely from battle and didn't fight that seem so capable of disdain for ones enemies. Those that fought usually have respect for them and their capabilities.
I'd prefer to rename them after modern MOH winners.
Just off the top of my head we have the Mike Monsour and the Knox Class of frigates was named after MOH winners well into the Vietnam War.
Can't you see it now, The Corpsmen Class of ships? :) My God did those sailors earn a lot of Medals of Honor. I've known a lot of corpsman and most did time with the FMF.
I'd be just fine with that.
It won't be costless to rename them. It will be tens of millions for each renaming.
