FIRE BOMBS HAVE THEIR PLACE

Interesting little town here. I'm kind of sorry to see it in Alabama where I lived for 3 years and went to high school and got my driver's license. It seems that a little power corrupts absolutely.

“Policing for profit preys on the vulnerable, and it subverts public trust,” said IJ Attorney Jaba Tsitsuashvili. “Courts recognize that generating 10% of revenue from fines and fees raises a presumption of unconstitutionality. Brookside generates nearly five times that.”

It takes an ugly mind and an ugly character to come up with and implement these schemes. I have never figured out why people vote for scum like this.

Brookside was perverted by a bad cop who convinced the city of an easy way to make money off people who were not citizens....

Sounds like someone in Brookside had visited Waldo FL and took a page from their book. Waldo was doing this at least 30 or more years ago. I moved away 20 years ago but had heard that sometime in the past 10-15 years, "they" were finally able to do something about it which was to eliminate the Waldo PD and go back to having the Alachua Co. Sheriff provide police services to the town.

Re Waldo, I looked it up to refresh my memory.
The town PD was disbanded in 2014 following a probe by the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement.
Another fun tidbit that I had heard back in the 90s, that made it to the wikipedia page:
"In 2012, Waldo was ranked #3 in a National Motorists Association listing of its "Worst Speed Trap Cities" in North America (with a population of less than 50,000)"

Similar thing with Randolph, MO. They were disbanded for the speed trap that generated a major portion of the town revenues.
