He was a man of may talents. Some people say he was an Englishman. We could sure use one like him today.
"It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place,
which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by
your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all
good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like
Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your
God for a few pieces of money.
Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice
you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your
God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes? Is
there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the
Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d
the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and
wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation;
you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are
yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up
the doors.
In the name of God, go!”
Oliver Cromwell – April 20, 1653
Just how did we all end up with the worst ruling class ever all at the same time all around the world?

No Oliver Cromwell's available on Amazon, sorry says the dogs of Amazon.
Also, history showed Cromwell just as corrupt and venal as the folks he displaced.
Something about human nature and absolute power. Maybe that's why our Founding Fathers tried to create a 3 way Co-Equal government?
You do know that old saw about who controls history, right? He would not last a second today but then, supposedly, neither would Hitler and you know what, I have my doubts about that now too. What nobody recalls is that when it comes to America, Cromwell and his supporters were the first Americans.
Pray tell please expand on this thought Friend. Interesting First Americans?
The first Europeans to establish a continuous presence in what is now the contiguous United States were the Spaniards, with Martín de Argüelles arriving in St. Augustine, Florida
Martín de Argüelles Jr. (1566–1630) was the first white child known to have been born in what is now the contiguous United States. His birthplace of St. Augustine, Florida

. Additionally, the first permanent European settlement was Jamestown, established by the English in 1607
I think you mean Jamestown?
Firs Americans. As in religious fanatics who launched themselves repeatedly at this toxic shore despite dying in droves. They came from England and established a number of colonies here. You can read all about it. On my way to Amsterdam where I head north to Saratoga springs. Did the Dutch come to stick it to the English or because they were equally fanatical?
Well perhaps, it is a point of view.
After all, when the American Revolution started most of "Cromwell's supporters" didn't want to separate from the King and Crown. Indeed, a fair bit of those with wealth enough to move left and went back to Europe or Canada.
Wikipedia has a decent pair of articles about Loyalists and Patriots.
Were they ALL Fanatical? Does that say something about American DNA or something?
Power, especially political power, draws those who should NEVER have access to power. Those who can handle power are disinclined to seek it. This reality makes the outcomes easily predictable.
John Adams: 'Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'
Empires fall for many reasons but the most common is loss of morals.
When George Washington stepped down from being the President due to a VOTE by the common people the Nobility of Europe was astonished.
Murder, Wars or abdication under duress were how normally passed on in the family European Nobility was changed.
funny you should mention the Dutch; there were a lot of Dutch traders whose pedigree was the Jewish families (including Conversos and Marranos) who had been chased out of Spain and Portugal in the 14th and early 15th centuries arriving here in the New World
I was not associated with many English men. I can't say that about English women.
I was born overseas to American father and British mother, but I grew up in the USA from the age of 7. I graduated from Texas A&M university with a mechanical engineering degree, and served my country in the USAF flying F-15's in the early 80's. I was stationed in Germany back in the 80's and resigned my commission after 10-years and took a position with a German engineering firm.
I've been living in Germany since then. I raised my kids here, I own a house in a quiet picturesque "postcard" German town and have no regrets about not returning to the US.
While the US still boasts about being the "Land of the Free" and while German has it's issues (all of which were recently imported) my kids grew up safer, smarter and healthier than my brother's kids in the US.
250-years of abusing it's citizens from outlawing owning gold, income tax, civil asset forfeiture, declining school education, unaffordable health care and living where people have to carry a firearm to feel safe. We don't need to discuss US involvement in regime changes and pointless wars where America had no business being in the first place.
250-years of wasted blood and treasure in the name of spreading freedom and democracy. 250-years of abusing the "rights" of its own citizens despite the clear language of the Constitution. 250-years of big business running our government through the charade of lobbyists. It's now a country being over run by foreigners who have more rights, better benefits and a better standard of living than many American working-poor.
I was gaslighted from the age of 5 until the one day I was sitting in Reforger briefing , that it dawned on me that Russia was never going to run tanks through the Fulda Gap. Not then. Not ever. I still remember that briefing and realized the bullshit I grew up with being taught in school was continuing in my professional life as an officer in the USAF.
So while you're waving your flags, keep in mind 36-million Americans live below the official poverty line. 29-million can't afford health care. 54% of US adults read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level. And it's not going to get better anytime soon no matter who you vote for.
America was never that great, it just had the world's best marketing and advertising campaign that's never stopped lying to it's public. From the civil sector to the public sector right through into the government sector, the BS never stops.
I remember the bicentennial, and have lived long enough to see the semiquincentennial. But I seriously doubt with the way things are going, any of us will see an American Tricentennial.
Anon, you resigned your commission, but did you also renounce your American citizenship and acquire only Federal Republic of Germany citizenship?
You pointed out the flaws of America that you have seen, but you missed the fact that no matter how you cut the pie, America is far better off than any other country in the world.
The change for the better started about 40 years ago when homeschool and small private schools started up because parents with vision moved their kids out of public schools. Those children are now adults, speak several languages, think critically, know history and understand our Constitution and founding documents. They are also producing products that are only dreamed of in other countries.
Yes, change takes time. The descent to mediocrity took time as did the current enslavement of Americans to our crazy system. The climb out of intersectionality, feminism, modernity, Marxism and equal outcomes for everyone will take time to correct national faults, but that course change has already started.
@ Dave - No, I'm still a US citizen but my wife of 43-years is a German national, so I'm a legal alien here in Deutschland. ;-) Those home school kids you mention only represent about 6-7% of the total numbers of school age kids. But I agree, they will probably have better lives because of it. However the other 93% of kids in public schools will fall in line with the status quo, taught under a liberal agenda with useless degrees and careers as Starbucks baristas.
America has been in decline for more than 50-years, so none of what you mentioned will have any effect to improve things or turn any of it around. Trump is a speed bump on the American political time line and as we all know, it's really a one party system anyway.
Anyone with any knowledge of industry knows the days of thousands of factory workers with decent paying jobs is long gone so I'm not sure what products you're referring to being produced in the US, at least at scales that matter to hundreds of workers. And while Americans are more innovative and more likely to throw seed money at new tech, it's not the kind that grows tens of thousands of jobs anymore. Those days are long gone. As Springsteen once sang. ""They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad track. Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back." And he was 100% spot on.
Unfortunately, Europe is following the same path the US did 30-years ago with all it's DEI nonsense which is slowly growing in German and many European companies. I[ through the 90's, Europe was about 20-years behind the US in social trends. Today it's nearly on par with instant access to the internet and moronic YouTube influencers making significant cultural changes, and not in a good way.
However European education system is heads and shoulders above what US kids are going through and they still push the trades for kids who don't have a university in their future. One our neighbors kids went to the US on an exchange program in Michigan. He learned nothing he didn't already know, and when he came back, had to repeat the year he missed. But he did enjoy playing American high school sports.
Before judging Europe, Americans should come and live in Europe for a few years and not just roll through on a few weeks holiday vacation. After you've lived on the economy then make that decision about America being far better off than any other country on earth. On almost every metric, Europeans come out happier, healthier and better educated and with less debt and less stress at work. You do know we get 6-weeks of paid holiday right? The U.S. is the only high-income country without federally mandated paid annual leave or paid family leave. Oh, and to put an end to the socialist myth, Germany does not have free health care. We have two choices; private or state. In the end, the quality of healthcare is the same for both, but with private insurance you can get your own hospital room.
Back to your commend on being "...far better..." if you do come here for a visit, you will not find homeless encampments here in Germany, or anywhere else in Europe on the scale and/or frequency you will in the US. No panhandlers at intersections, no disabled vets begging for money. And please, don't get me started on how the "Land of the Free" cares for it's veterans.
Germany is not Utopia. Europe is not paradise. But for me and my family, it's a far better life here than anywhere in the US any day of the week.
I would be interested in a comparison of the rape of Nanking to Britain, number of girls, how many times were they rapped, number of men, home many rapes each. Time held a slave, how many survived, how many killed.
This needs to be in the mainstream news… me too etc. seem silent.

Years of picking the lesser of two evils
I’m less interested in numbers and stories. It is now patently obvious that England and Scotland are dead. Societies that won’t fight for their women and girls won’t fight for anything. They are now every bit as emasculated as if the Turks cut their dicks off.
Anon @ 3:21. Renounce your citizenship and then I will consider how your thoughts may have merit. Otherwise, you are just like the complaining celebrities who say they hate America and are moving out of the country.
You are settled into socialism and it shows in your comments. My neighbor in Germany was a hard core Nazi and was the Burgermeister. When we had drinks, he would say "We lost the last war to America, but we will win the next one."
You are no different than the officers I worked with decades ago who were always attracted to shiny things but couldn't do their jobs. The Air University Review published an opinion article I wrote pointing out that our officers knew more about major sports figures and Playboy centerfolds than the did about Soviet equipment or their own planes and weapons. The bosses flamed on me for pointing out the truth. You are able to point out what you like, but not able to understand what is really going on.
The celebrities leave for a short while and then are right back in the US complaining even more. Until you put your wholehearted effort into complaining about the US by renouncing your citizenship you are just a bum complaining from afar. American citizenship is a safety net and you don't believe your own rhetoric enough to renounce your citizenship. Commit now or be quiet.
