LONG TIME COMING

I have to admit that I let the whole rock and roll era of my youth pretty much slip by without ever once taking it up and really paying attention. The music was always there in the background and for me that is just what it was, background. In just the last year or two I have slowly come to discover what almost everyone else probably picked up right about the time they turned 15. I just want to say in my own defense, I was poor, could never read music, never played an instrument and there wasn't much of a musical nature out on the water which is where I spent most of my time.

I think I might have first heard it the first time I heard John Prine when I was 19. I just want to say that I definitely hear it when I hear John Prine and quite a few other musicians now. I now stop and take notice when the noise stops and the music starts to play. I still have no idea why people go to concerts but I can hear why they might be inclined to go.

I'm glad that 3 engineering tours of duty didn't damage my hearing and that I can still hear the music.

If you're listening to John Prine, you're doing it right.

My brother turned me on to John Prine around...1975 or so. He was a big fan.

I suppose I could be considered a bit of a "late bloomer". I didn't really get into music until I was in college, closing on age 30, after my Army hitch.
