Well it appears that the drones have finally risen to become masters of all and so now the question is, when do they start to make their appearance here? Drones and explosives are easy and plentiful and this is probably the most target rich environment on the planet with many worthy targets and worthwhile objectives just lying out there supine and ready for the moment. At the moment there is no defense at all.
I don't recall that the Diamond Age started with a bang but I'm willing to bet the next age of civilization does. There is going to be a lot of money for whoever comes up with a surefire drone killer and unleashes it on the market first. I wouldn't be surprised if Elon already has a company up and running and a team of engineers and weapon shops working on a solution already.

Had to look up The Diamond Age, is it the book about Phyle and all that?
Looks like an interesting book I need to read.
When war was blades, a Ruler could lead with a band of bodyguards.
Then the disrupter firearms became common.
When war added firearms Rulers mostly stayed home and Generals lead armies. I think Napolean was the last King sort to actually lead troops in battle.
Even then small firearms and crazies could get past a Kings (Leaders, Presidents) bodyguard, Ronald Regan was an example.
Leaders adapted using armored limos and such especially after JFK's open car ride hit.
Now as you mentioned the next disrupter Drones.
An era of even more anonymous death as Ukrainian First Person Drones are cheap and AI will be even more anonymous and cheap.
Heinlein often spoke about how a few disruptive people were creative and lifted people out of poverty's grind. Often despised and when driven out poverty returned. This was called "Bad Luck".
I suspect the socialist crab bucket would have crazies using drones to destroy folks like Musk and such.
Not sounding like fun. I'm thinking with economic collapse more like Blade Runner and the street scene of roasted rat on a stick.
From my earlier comment about Et Tu Brutus:

Israel struck the JOINT Qutar-Iranian Gas fields setting them ablaze. Mixed reports if America helped or an Israeli only strike.
This was a after Iran notified the entire world that attacks against Oil infrastructure WOULD be responded too against those that attack Iran.
There is a reason Iran told the whole world, so our media wouldn't control the narrative.
I wonder how much of the middle east oil infrastructure will be burning tomorrow.
As David wrote in his comments how LONG will it take to restore oil, natural gas and the fertilizer plants that will be involved.
What control does Trump really have on our "ally" Israel?
The VAST majority of people don't believe it can happen here....until it happens here. Then it will be too late.
The FAA controls the radio-controlled (RC) plane hobby and regulates airspace safety. The FCC regulates the radio frequencies and transmitters used to control these aircraft.
The FAA could easily designate no-fly zones or create a new controlled airspace which bans drone flights all together. The FCC can also require registration of all RC radio controls or ban the use of those frequencies. Both would be easy to implement in a state of emergency.
RC planes and drones typically operate on 2.4 GHz for standard control, with 5.8 GHz used commonly for First Person View (FPV) video transmission. Since these are well known and have limited range it's not that difficult to jam these frequencies with off the shelf technology. I'm pretty sure the military industrial complex has already considered this and has counter-measures installed at major installations.
Unlike a car or truck, drones require a skilled operator to use them so their use will never be wide spread. I'd be more worried about rogue actors going kamikaze than I would be about the use of drones.
Pardon me Anonymous. When did "Permission" ever enter the chat of domestic terrorism?
Jamming suffers from loss of power in the ever expanding radii from the source of jamming. That MIGHT be WHY it's only semi-successful in Ukraine.
Oddly some folks started using fiber optic strands (Like the TOW missile and others) to ignore frequency jammers. Some pictures of the Ukrainian battlefield are jammed up with so much fiber optic control strands even now.
Evil Clever folks decided to create drone that HOME IN on Jammers, a bit like our anti-radar missiles.
Skilled operators? Sir, some of my friends decided over a BBQ to test out some of the Quad Copter Ukraine take out tanks BS and bought a couple of off the shelf cheap drones and set up demolition derby style competitions.
It was so fun and addictive to do white flour bomb drops on plywood with "hatch sized" holes in them we set up Remote Control Big Wheel cars to be moving targets.
As a side effect of this hobby, we now have a small local Drone Tree Inspection service that can spray pesticides on gypsy moth infestations, and our services have been used for Real Estate estimations of roofing and chimneys.
Skills take less than a weekend to learn.
I don’t have vision of how, but I think mutually assured destruction is the answer on a scale similar to Cowboys and Indians. What ever the equivalent of killing all the buffalo is it will happen. Or it will be like fire ants and you just push them to your neighbors yard.
Once again you have people who don't understand the nature of real war. The Israelis do and we have a few top people who understand it now too. In a war you don't count the cost other than to the extent that it damages the enemy. You really don't care about the long term difficulties your enemies may face in rebuilding. You really don't care at all. The fact that President Trump is, at this moment, unwilling to lay waste to Kharg Island does not mean that we won't in the future. By the same token, nobody told the Israelis what is off limits in terms of wreaking pure economic damage on their last remaining enemy.
Yep. They don't even think about it and they damn anyone who does.
Think back to the late 60s and early 70s when the liberal terrorists like the Black Panthers, Red Brigades, KKK, Weather Underground and Puerto Rican freedom terrorists were detonating hundreds of bombs a week in this country. Those people have gotten much, much worse and are more evil than you can imagine. Of course they're going to drone attack the people they hate just as soon as they figure out how.
Even during WW2 fighting Japan we didn't target the Imperial Palace area even as there were major military targets nearby.
Why? Because they wanted the Emperor to be able to surrender.
Israel deliberately attacks every part of the Iranian Government leaving ONLY the most Hardline peoples. Almost like no intent to even have an ability to talk surrender or GASP Horrors Diplomacy to shut down this war.
THEN even after Iran told the entire world that attacking Iran's oil infrastructure AND that they would respond in kind.
Almost like they DON'T want an Off Ramp for this war.
No problem, Gaza leads the way. Just destroy them completely.
Now I'm waiting for the false flag to "Motivate America" that IRAN MUST BE DESTROYED. Maybe a nice "Iranian Drone" attack in California as we were "warned about" recently.
Total War doesn't always work out as planned.
You know, I was reading some defense industry news this morning and thinking "that irreplaceable factory you are boasting about is less than a mile from three separate freeways and highways that surround it".
Forget truck launched drones, you could hit it with a longbow and fire arrow.
The threat isn't just real to people who should know better.
As Cardinal Richeliue would say, Bingeaux!
I swear you can count the number of people who understand physical security on the thumbs of one hand.
I wasn't thinking of Barksdale AFB, it just popped up in the news, but wow.
Any installation without a 20km buffer zone is now looks to be a decapitation strike target.
Yep. When I think back to the days of CIWS in air auto engage mode and then being out there on a line of bearing from one and thinking that if Portlands CIWs opened fire down our line of bearing on a target (real or imaginary) those unstoppable bullets would sleet through all 6 of us minesweepers without even slowing down very much.
I don't know diddly about frangible ammo and C-RAM but interlocking fields of fire AAA defenses over every installation is now a solid 24 carat gold requirement. Imagine the costs and the heartache when they engage.
