Can you believe that there are a lot of people (100% in the media) who believe that every person that joins the military goes to bed at night quaking in fear that President Trump will send them on a nice little expeditionary war on the far side of the world? I know! What red blooded American serviceman(woman) doesn't join for the opportunity to go off and do something daring for a good purpose such as killing terrorists and ending evil regimes that promote terrorism worldwide?
The Media portray every war as a bad war, a war that didn't have to be fought and as an evil unrivaled on the scale of evil and in this they are joined by every single damned liberal on the planet even though half of them still have "FREE TIBET" bumper stickers on their cars and despite a world of evidence still believe that we can co-exist with evil.
People don't join the combat arms and enlist in the Expeditionary forces because they just wanted to serve 4 years and get the GI Bill. They want to contribute something really meaningful and if they're like their parents and friends and relatives they know that they will meet people and do things that the ordinary people never dream of and they don't look back on the history of our use of force over the last 100 years and see a tragic record filled with epic disasters, they see a country that toppled evil regimes, fought evil enemies, freed millions of people from the idiocy of communist tyranny and they see that the cost was worth it.
Admittedly, they don't see what happens when some guys improvise armor for themselves and they don't see the burns but they also, to a man, think that that sort of thing happens to the other guy. They are young and willing to put it all on the line to see the elephant and then maybe have a story to tell that is worth both the telling and the hearing. It all boils down to the idea of sharing in something greater than they are that is worth doing and when you contrast the likes of them with the likes of antifa and the killjoy liberals protesting against the demons in their own heads then there is no comparison at all.

Yeah, Vietnam was great.
Afghanistan was a powerful example of the primacy of American warfighting with so many NATO allies involved. 20 years of fighting the Taliban to flee at night and give that country to the Taliban PLUS modern US Weapons left behind.
Wonder how much was sold to China and Russia for study.
Hothi's' lost, err was defeated, err well never mind the Hothi's 2 US Navy 0 scoreboard. BTW they seem to be back in the game again.
I notice that Trump the dealmaker has made a deal with Russia to UN-sanction their oil to cover the US losses from that area under concern.
I guess expensive gasoline isn't a good look in America.
Let's see how much in real world DELIVERY we get from that "Deal".
Pity even He couldn't say the Russians (#2 Rare Earth producers of the world) were going to sell us a gram of rare earths. Maybe Russia is still annoyed OUR ISR is STILL directing Ukrainian Missiles into Russia?
How petty of them.
Want to bet the ongoing effort to defang the USA of their fancy weapons is ongoing with everyone launched at Iran is one less available for China or Russia. Decades of our Missile Production burned up for the glory of the Epstein Alliance.
Sorry for being harsh but your smarter than that.
There IS NO GLORY in going to war.
Army.
Army again.
Notice how the Army never had any trouble meeting enlistment goals until Biden and his crew of turds?
You cannot beat tribesmen in a war with cameras and the news. It's hard enough without them.
Talk to the kids on the ships. It is not about glory.
Used the word expeditionary advisedly. There is a huge difference between that and Army. For instance, 80 years since we beat them and we are still occupying both Germany and Japan and have an division/Army in Korea.
Every wingnut always acts as if we choked the living shit out of the kids and forced them to join up and then horribly mistreat them and hate them to death and yet......
I'd give up on the Epstein alliance thing. I don't know where it comes from but rational beings can see that Iran has been a spoke in the gears of civilization since 1979 and teaming up with the one other warfighting mob on the planet to do us both a benny is not a bad thing.
I don't plan my day around fighting off China or Russia. I don't think we'll fight the latter since we don't have any reasons to and WRT China, that 100 mile gap is decisive and Western China only needs to wait awhile and demographics will see Taiwan fall into their hands soon enough. Consider, there are fewer and fewer people over there and way fewer than anybody ever guessed.
Hothis was Army?
Actually I'm pretty sure a lot of people actually do sign up for for the military not because they want to serve or do something special but do so because they have no special skills, no actual talent and nothing to contribute to society but still want to eat and have a place to exist. And joining the military provides the proverbial three hits and a cot plus a monthly paycheck. And when they are asked to do military things they get pissed and misbehave. Like plugging up the toilets on an aircraft carrier.
Dan- Where'd you go to boot camp?
You didn't notice how the whole Houthi thing went away several months ago? You didn't wonder why that was?
And no, it wasn't the Army.
I wrote, "combat arms" and "expeditionary forces" for a reason. That's where the guys are going and the reason why they are going. When people tell you about the aimless drifters and the people with no skills who just join to improve those skills, get new ones or make something of themselves, well a lot of them are not combat arms. They make up the tail in the proverbial tail to the tooth ratio and as I recall, the Army is about 70% sustainment and logistics so there is lots of room for the skill seekers.
WRT to the toilets, once again the Admirals stabbed the fleet in the back with nonsense design requirements/specifications and once again they stabbed the sailors in the back by extending a deployment because once again industry and the admirals are too fucked up to schedule and perform maintenance on a schedule and hold contractors to the schedule.
When you piss off a lot of sailors they ALL have ways of letting you know it.
Just as a thought exercise, on a ship with about 6000 sailors on it, how many does it take to clog up the toilet system of an extremely stupid design for waste elimination? 3 or 4?
Would it help you understand better if I told you that when my ships (all of 6 of them) passed the 12 mile limit we aligned the entire sanitary system to drain straight to the sea and the salt water flushing took away all our problems and a blockage was at worst a once a day occurrence? Would you believe this had a beneficial impact on the environment?
As I mentioned in an earlier post the Hothi are apparently coming back. Yes, I spoke about the brilliant IDF strikes against their leadership. AND I mentioned that like all terror organizations the regroup and return is their MO.
Like the British vs the Irish Republican Army until you resolve their disagreements and co-opt them into your government it continues.
Unless you use the Genghis Khan method of depopulating the entire area.
Michael, you keep missing the point. The USA does not care about the trade routes anymore. WE don't give a damn about them. More to the point, neither does anyone else on the planet. When we stopped caring was the end of the Global Rules Based Order because Trump and the rest of us can clearly see that we don't need it. We can trade with ANYBODY WE LIKE without transiting the narrow waters and SLOCs and if others cannot then they are welcome to take whatever action they like in the matter.
Nobody here gives a rat's patoot about the price of oil or even the complete lack of oil and gas in Europe or China. Trump started saying it 8 years ago and Europe just laughed and laughed at the idea that the USA would stop doing the heavy lifting and it was time to man up and build the capabilities that we were taking off the table. They didn't do a damned thing but whistle up a war with Russia that sucked every penny out of any plans they might have had to modernize and rearm and sent it to thieves in Ukraine and they all patted themselves on the back at how they are 'fucking' with Russia and fucking over Russia and meanwhile they have even less military or naval power every day.
Trump opened their eyes and this time he jammed a spike in them. Even if the next administration wanted to they cannot put the USA back on top of policing the world because we cannot afford it or hide the fact that we cannot afford it any longer.
Pax America is dead.
Sir, I am quite sure Pax America is done. Almost like it's the theme of our ongoing discussion.
But I cannot get across is this great rolling of the dice is defanging our military and the replacement of all the high tech weapons we burned will be harsh for years until we rebuild our industry to mine, purify, and manufacture rare earth's.
No stroke of the pen will restore the navy shipyards lost to offshore yards, those SKILLED WORKERS are retired.
And so on.
Years of rebuilding, training skilled workers (not college snowflake protesters) and so on.
Rome lost Pax Rome and what happened?
Not happy about it but history repeats.
Michael
The military hardware the US left behind has little real value other black market weapons value. What was really valuable was the software inside the electronics that runs it all. Odds are good our enemies have stripped out and reverse engineered it all by now.
