ON THE IMBECILITY OF AI

I really am convinced that AI today is essentially exactly like asking 46 Washington Post and 52 New York Times reporters to give you all the information that they have published about X. X is any topic at all.

What kind of an idiot would place any value on that answer?

I keep reading about the implacable onslaught of AI and how it is going to rule us all one day and what I keep seeing is the Washington Post in a box with a grill and a fan trying to tell me what the cool kids are doing in DC and it all sounds depressingly familiar. I got neural networks but pretending that a program that sucks all of its information out of online legacy media and whatever the gatekeepers in magazine and book publishing have greenlighted over the last 20 years is not a recipe for any kind of useful or meaningful knowledge.

Garbage In Garbage Out. AI will be no different.

To err is Human. to really screw up requires a computer.

The powers that be seem to want a Technological Feudalism.

If you see all AI as ChatGPT, trained on the internet, then you are right. But that is a toy.

AI used for real in industry used models trained on labelled and curated data. And yes, it's having an impact. It's here, believe it or not, your choice.

Think of it this way as an analogy. If you are running for political office, are you going to use polling data from the MSM (ChatGPT) or are you going to conduct internal polling (training custom models with labelled data)?
