AS I WAS SAYING

This is now the current state of the USN. It demonstrates very clearly the extent of damage any sailor of ill-will can wreak on a supine and helpless navy that allowed itself to recruit possibly thousands of men and women who don’t love America and sadly the mechanisms to get rid of them need to be imposed starting at the very top of the organization.

What the hell. Just a few million dollars in aircraft. Unless the sailor involved is not keep hauled he sure should be.

60 million according to the report.

When I saw it this afternoon I thought of this site.

Carriers are high risk environments...for both people and equipment. And a one of incident is just that....but these incidents are starting to add up. Didn't we lose an F 35 the same way a couple years ago?

From what I heard from a few other people from the news. The towing of the bird was during a missile attack from the islams. The carrier was turning sharply to avoid the missile. Even with a warning from the bridge the turn would be leaning the carrier at least 10 to 15 degrees or even more. That is enough for a bird to slide off the carrier. The rest of the birds would be tied down at this time. Even with non-skid on the flight deck it is still very slippery from all the oil, fuel, hydraulic fluids, and water that stays on the flight deck. So, off goes a bird and tow tractor with it. There is also a person in the cockpit to apply breaks when needed. So, at least two people are involved, unless they are using wing walkers to help out keeping the tow driver from hitting other aircraft and other objects on the flight deck. At least some of this information is also from experience since I was on the flight deck for 4 different carriers during my time in the Navy.

With a mind uncluttered by the facts nor burdened by any relevant training, experience or education here’s my view. They don’t let fuckwits work on the flight decks of carriers, neither officers nor enlisted. If this happened during a missile attack, I’d blame the enemy. With no loss of US personnel I call it a bearable loss.

The carrier was heeled over hard in an evasive turn. No tow vehicle, even with someone in the cockpit on the aircraft brakes, is going to hold place on the deck without tiedowns already in place. This in likely not the fault of any one sailor, but the cost of operating in a high tempo, high threat environment.
