I wonder how many pagers blew up in the United States and Europe yesterday? It's a given that dozens or hundreds blew up in Doha and Iran but I'd be curious at the number of pagers that blew up outside Lebanon yesterday.
As to who launched the attack on terrorists it could be anybody really. Some people like to blame the Jews for everything or Mossad but in this case there is a lot of hate out there and it could have been planned and implemented by the Maronites, Druze, Sunni Lebanese or the old standbys, the CIA and KGB. Who else hates the PLO that much? Oh, yeah, just about every other country on earth.

Once it happened it's available to many more folks to use.
The idea is out there for bad folks to research. Knowing the concept is half the battle. See reverse engineering for details.
Any electronic item linked to cell, pager or internet(wiFi) with a litium battery can be ordered to overheat and burn.
Just think of the FUN you can have if you have access to your enemies cellphone number.
News report in "(insert yout town name here) a celphone malfunctoned and burned down a noted bloggers home. Nobody was seriously hurt but..."
"Begun the cellphone wars" with apologies to Yoda.
So, now I'll consider a little push/pull trailer wagon thingy to keep my portable surveillance bomb off my body. Perhaps I should just modify one of those toys that toddlers have, the one with a perspex dome and bouncy stuff inside. As for the pager trick.....well played! (golf clap)
Once started hooking triggers to the internet and to cellular networks it was just a matter of time. It now applies to literally every single non-consumable item you bring into your home, car, life. All of them could have a tiny cell receiver to answer the call, run the program and the battery is the catastrophic device. The really fun part? Just think of EV car batteries wired to explode on command from a remote signal.....The structure fires will be amazing. Auto sales will go through the roof as people try to replace burnt out cars left in parking garages that went up in inextinguishable flames.
We must pray that our enemies are never smarter than we are. But, as you say, having been informed of the trick what kind of fool falls for it again?.... yeah, I know. Not one single person with a pager or a phone has distanced them from himself, herself or their home, car or office. Not one single one.
While there are a number of possibilities by far the most likely answer is the Mossad. Gaining access to these devices and altering them without leaving a trail is definitely something Mossad is good at.
Dan look up lithium battery fires someday. When the battery controller fails (as often due to water damage, cheap manufacturing or in this case electronic sabotage) and nasty self-supporting flaming mess.
See Telsa fires for a larger scale joy, COMING SOON to America. Even your laptop can become a real exciting evening wakeup call via internet commands.
While the Mossy already said they added some plastic explosives to the devices and had them SOLD ALL OVER Lebanon (thus the civilian Doctors and Nurses crippled) to attack Hezbollah.
The story now is Mossad set up several shadow companies they used to "supply" Hezbollah with devices that had PETN explosives added to the internals. So while lithium batteries can be hazardous....I saw the after effects of a
Just think of all the batteries in say, all of our missiles, that we bought from China were soaked in the same stuff.
Who uses Pagers anymore?
Not nearly as many did last month. :)
