COURTESY RIDERS

I see from the good folks at the New York Post that New York City is having a spot of trouble with maniacs on e-bikes running down pedestrians. It won't surprise you to learn that the government's idea of a solution to this little problem involves taxing the bikers more and forcing them to get a license and also shoving government snouts into retailer's business to force compliance with the laws of some little hamlet on the Eloi bank of the East River.

I have some different proposals. My first is a real humdinger.

New York City should mandate that every pedestrian in New York City must carry an Iklwa. It is a multi-cultural politeness tool and it works in many situations especially in those up close and personal confrontations that so spice up life in Gotham. This one little bow to the petite gods of multiculturalism will go a long way towards making confrontations between e-bikers and pedestrians a much more two sided free-wheeling bloody brawl that entertains and amuses at gatherings where people discuss the highlights of their day in the big city. It will work way better than taxes and licenses.

I know some guys that can make a couple of thousand per day out of leaf springs and other scrap. I'm a problem solver, so let me know.

An Iklwa. And no, they don't grow on trees.

It's way easier and more useful than a sword and easier to essay a kill enforce politeness than a battleaxe.
