Did you ever wonder how it was that the Supreme Court of these allegedly United States of America never just stepped up to the bar and did their damned job on either issue?
Of course, the Supreme Court did have a lash at the slavery issue. Did you know that the Supreme Court's final ruling on the whole issue of slavery was Dred Scott v Sandford in 1857 and it ruled that enslaved people were not citizens of the United States and, therefore, could not expect any protection from the federal government or the courts. The opinion also stated that Congress had no authority to ban slavery from a Federal territory.
You know, now that I think about it, maybe I don't want them to offer a definitive final rule on the 2nd Amendment either.

Slavery was imposed long before the Constitution was a factor and it was mostly prevalent in agriculture states...the south. The history of slavery in the US is actually fairly complicated. Northern states had less need of it so we're willing to eliminate it. But Civil War or no, technological advancement would have probably ended it eventually.
I thought the Constitution DID recognize slavery by assigning them the value of 3/5 of a person.

Remember 1865? It was a Continent open for exploration and conquest and the frontier eats people. Then too, there was this whole industrialization thing and railroads and blast furnaces and mining and well, the list goes on. It might have ended well to those alive in '65 but they did not ever see the Great Society and the damned libtards coming. Nobody did.
