ODDLY ENOUGH, I FORGOT

When applying pressure internationally it is vital to always keep in mind who you are dealing with. Sad to say, in spite of spending decades in the Middle East, I forgot who were dealing with and so it should not have come as a surprise to learn that the Iranians, having no place else to store the oil, have started dumping it into the Persian Gulf. During the late Tanker War nobody over there so much as blinked has millions of tons of crude found its way out of damaged tankers and into the waters of the Gulf and decades later walking on the beaches could give you black tarred feet. The oil sludge sits just under the sand.

Remember, this is an industry that spent a hundred years flaring off natural gas because there was 'no market' for it. They do not see waste or inefficiency the way that normal people do.
