AN IDOL WONDER

Nobody ever really examines the fleet that builds an officer like Captain Jean Luc Picard so I thought I would helpfully point out that if Picard was the ideal star fleet captain the fleet would have produced thousands of officers with much of the same judgement, experience, acumen and traits that Picard displayed so effortlessly while in command in his fictional starship.

I always compare the men to the Fleets they came from and the interesting thing about the Royal Navy for generation after generation was that it produced not one Nelson or one Rodney or one Hood, but that it produced thousands of them. When Nelson entered into battle with the combined French and Spanish fleets at Trafalgar his orders were simplicity beyond our ken today. They were:

"Prepare for battle"

"England expects that every man will do his duty"

"Engage the enemy more closely"

Every officer on every one of the Royal Navy's ships knew what to do and how to do it.

You wouldn’t think a naval officer would derive all that much benefit from an MBA or PhD from a place as awful as Harvard. It might prepare an officer for dealing with the smug idiots in Congress but that kind of flagellation has been greatly reduced since the days this dolt asked questions of unbelievable stupidity and ignorance. Have you considered if too many Marines will cause Guam to flip over?
