ARMED TO DETECT METAL

As I was reading this today, I wondered, does anybody ever park at the border with Festung New Jersey and search around along the side of the road leading into Mordor to see if they can turn up a pistol or rifle that some traveler decided to simply ditch before heading into the darkness that is Trenton's Hell on earth?

Do you think you'd need a metal detector or would a visual sweep alone be good enough? I'm thinking some people might actually stop and bury their guns under a conveniently marked location so they can return some day and retrieve their 2nd Amendment. We should probably leave those for the owner.
