RARE VISITORS AT METROPARKCENTRALIS

We had a pair of CH-47s and a B-17 bomber at Burke Lakefront Airport this weekend. The Memphis Belle was here to offer people rides low and slow over the city. I suspect the helos were Guard or Reserve out of Pennsylvania.

So... did ya go for a ride? I never did at any of the air shows I attended, mainly coz the owners of the aircraft wanted waaay too damned much money. I'm cheap like that.

You got some great shots! I wonder how much the passengers got to see. There were a lot of folks packed in there and not a lot of viewing space.

I'm my father's son and cheap. If I remember, when they built that plane, we paid people to ride in it. Not the other way around. OTOH, if I could bring myself to pay the asked fare, I'd set the plane ablaze in midair as I scrambled to see everything from the cockpit to the tail gun position and all spots between. Just air friction as I moved around in the plane to try to see it all would doom us all. :)

Well, there's two waist gun positions, I think. I'd have to look at the shots to see if the port position was faired over or not. They might let people into the tail but they didn't allow people aft of the entry door on the static B17's I've been on before at Evergreen and down in Florida. I didn't kick as the plane seemed to take forever to come back for the next load of PAX. It struck me that they were giving their 'crew' their monies worth and that's always a good thing.
